NPR is seeking a temporary Producer I for the Arts & Culture Hub to manage and produce content, including the Book of the Day podcast, with a focus on audio production and cultural storytelling. This is a full-time, 9-month temporary position with remote work permitted.
• Salary: $97,500 per year | Hourly Rate: $46.88 per hour
• Workplace Requirements: Remote permitted; based out of Washington, DC, but the employee may choose to work remotely from an NPR-approved location.
• Years of Experience Required: Minimum of 4 years in radio production and podcast experience.
• Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Hard Skills Required:
- Highly developed mixing and scoring skills
- Proficiency in SEO, headline writing, and digital engagement practices
- Ability to produce high-quality stories under tight deadlines
- Experience with digital media and CMS
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Soft Skills Required:
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong understanding of journalistic ethics

Job Title: Producer I, Arts & Culture Hub (Temporary)

Overview:
NPR's Arts & Culture Hub offers news, discovery, and analysis of arts and culture across various platforms, including digital, radio, podcasts, social media, and video. The hub covers television, film, music, books, and the arts, along with cultural events, providing original reporting and insights.
Position Introduction:
NPR is looking for a producer with enthusiasm for arts and pop culture. The producer will support reporters and critics, produce NPR’s Book of the Day podcast, and have opportunities to report on cultural stories. The focus will be on engaging the audience and enhancing their cultural curiosity.
Responsibilities:
• Execute highly developed mixing and scoring tasks with minimal supervision, even under tight deadlines.
• Pitch and develop story ideas related to arts and culture.
• Apply SEO best practices, write engaging headlines, and ensure digital stories are ready for posting.
• Plan, edit, report, and produce coverage on various topics.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Produce NPR’s Book of the Day podcast.
• Write and report stories as assigned.
• File spots when requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in radio production and podcasting.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and manage large amounts of information.
• Ability to produce high-quality stories quickly under deadline pressure.
• Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Understanding of journalistic ethics.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Daily news experience.
• Experience with digital media and content management systems (CMS).
• Radio or broadcast experience is highly desirable.
