Manager, Digital Analytics (remote optional)
Do you have a passion for using analytics to improve digital consumer products and content? Do you enjoy the challenge of putting insights into action while surrounded by dedicated and creative people in a mission-driven environment? Then this role is for you.
You will contribute to NPR’s mission by leading our mobile app analytics and managing the strategy and operations of many analytics dashboards used by NPR. You will extract insights from complex media usage data sets, work with NPR content and product teams on data products that inform decision making, and be the analytics thought leader on mobile apps.
You’ll be part of NPR’s Audience Insights team of analysts and researchers, working closely with digital product teams, the newsroom, and leaders at NPR and NPR stations around the country.
Across our organization, we’re building a workplace where collaboration is essential, diverse voices are heard, and inclusion is the key to our success. We strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply.
Location: This role is remote optional, meaning options to work fully remotely, fully in-person or hybrid in-person and remote are available.
What You’ll Do
• Lead analytics work for NPR mobile apps and share insights that influence content, digital products, distribution, and revenue.
• Manage and build the analytics dashboards we build for NPR teams across digital content and platforms. Ensure that these tools are based on an overarching strategy, scalable infrastructure, excellent stakeholder relationships, and an effective user experience.
• Collaborate with the team that builds similar analytics dashboards for NPR stations across the country, serving as subject matter expert on the data, key metrics, and station needs.
• Manage a Senior Digital Analyst, providing direct guidance and coaching in day-to-day activities and in overall career growth.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and teams at all levels, so that you influence larger strategies as a trusted advisor.
• Master the data flowing through NPR’s digital platforms, manage the tagging and integrity of that data, and query and explore that data for insights and recommendations that are actionable.
• Serve diverse needs across the organization, including trend reporting, responding to incoming requests, and diving into big questions that require deeper analyses.
• Expertly share insights through dynamic presentations that tell a story, clear and persuasive writing, and focused meeting facilitation, all of which take a point of view that drives action.
• Support a team culture that celebrates diversity, values different perspectives, and holds team members accountable for their actions.
What We’re Looking For
We don’t expect any one candidate to have all of the qualities listed below, but we hope a successful candidate will bring many of the following:
• Several years of experience in consumer digital analytics across a variety of platforms.
• Experience managing, coaching, and/or mentoring individuals.
• Experience building and managing dashboards, from setting the strategy and vision to executing on data infrastructure, queries, and data visualizations.
• Proven expertise with Google Analytics and Firebase (or similar).
• Experience retrieving and transforming data using SQL.
• Data analysis skills using Excel or Google Sheets.
• Experience working with digital product teams implementing analytics.
• Bonus points for:
• Experience in the news media.
• Experience with mobile app analytics and/or audio measurement.
• Experience uncovering insights in the areas of user registration, email newsletters, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), and individual donations and membership.
• Expertise with BigQuery and/or R/Python.
