Part Time Unpaid Internship

Program Duration: October 3, 2022 - April 14, 2023
INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:
You will report and write stories for npr.org about the economic and business forces that shape the world we live in. You’ll develop smart pitches, conduct in-depth research and interview people to support NPR reporters’ stories. By the end of your time here, you should also be able to report and write an audio story for our network. NPR reaches a diverse, national audience and we look for interns who are excited about serving the public.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reports and writes stories about economics, business, labor, technology and the media for NPR.org
• Conducts story research for reporters and editors
• Pitches story ideas and brainstorms compelling ways to tell them
• Schedules interviews and logs audio
• Participates in staff meetings and projects as required
• Other duties as assigned
WHO CAN APPLY?
• LOCATION: This internship has the flexibility to be onsite at our Washington, DC office or at our New York bureau. It can also be hybrid or fully remote. Must be planning to work from the United States throughout the internship dates.
• EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Excellent reporting, writing, research, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently, quickly, and accurately under deadline pressure
• Demonstrated interest in news and current events, especially business and economic news
• Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
• Cultivate and support an inclusive and equitable workplace culture
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Previous journalism experience, either through internships or school publications
• Familiarity with NPR shows and podcasts
• Ability to speak a language other than English
• In addition to a resume and cover letter, candidates must upload/attach a writing sample
SCHEDULE
This internship is full-time (40 hours/week). Standard work hours are 9:30am-5:30pm ET Monday through Friday. Those hours can be adjusted as needed.
