KTXL FOX40 in Sacramento is seeking a Chief Photographer who is a team-oriented leader, passionate about storytelling, detail-oriented while also seeing the big picture, and who thrives in a competitive environment.
You will oversee the day-to-day operations of our talented team of photojournalists, including their individual performance, all ENG gear and related technology, and our fleet of vehicles. You will also play a significant role in special projects and special events, including our in-depth ''FOX40 Focus'' reports, election and political coverage, topical half-hour specials, documentaries, podcasts, sponsored show specials, and other news-related programming.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plans and directs staffing, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations for photographers
• Collaborates with other members of the leadership team, and other departments, to ensure high-quality content and execution of strategic goals
• Leads technical assignments and certain logistics for special event coverage
• Maintains all ENG technology and equipment, working in partnership with Engineering Department
• Manages the photographer staff, including regular feedback, coaching and development
• Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of employees
• Assigns projects to staff and ensures that content meets established company and station standards
• Performs photographer duties as required by business demands
• Operates live microwave and satellite trucks in remote situations when needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Oversees station fleet of drones and drone pilots
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum five years of experience as a television news photographer, with at least three years in a leadership role
• Degree in Communications, Broadcast Journalism, Videography or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Deep knowledge and experience with contemporary newsgathering equipment and systems, and proficiency with their operation
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating direct reports, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
• Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills
• Experience with remote production, including microwave and satellite trucks
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Fluency in English
• UAS 107 remote pilot license strongly preferred
• California wildfire coverage experience strongly preferred
• Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred
Compensation - $70,000-$73,000 commensurate with experience and skill level
