KTXL FOX40 in Sacramento is seeking an Investigative and Special Projects Producer for our growing team. There's a lot of digging to do in California's capital city, and we need a passionate, persistent journalist to help lead the charge.
The ideal candidate is tenacious and creative who thrives on going deep beneath the surface, uncovering information and breaking stories on broadcast and digital platforms. An understanding of the FIOA process, the California Public Records Act and other knowledge necessary to obtain documents and data is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Developing sources for exclusive, enterprise content
• Researching potential stories, vetting tips
• Pitching original ideas and collaborating with others to develop their ideas
• Overseeing FOIA requests and other efforts to obtain documents and data
• Participating in the daily editorial process with an eye toward investigative angles and follow-ups
• Planning investigative and special projects from initiation through completion
• Assisting on-air Reporters in the field
• Working closely with Photographers, Assignment Editors, Digital and Newscast Producers, News Managers, and other departments to ensure successful story generation, production, promotion and distribution on all platforms
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• Strong editorial judgment and journalistic instincts
• Understanding of contemporary production and storytelling techniques
• Familiarity with FOIA, public document requests, data base searches and related investigative tools and techniques
• Proficiency with gear and equipment used for broadcast and digital newsgathering
• Digital and social media expertise
• Knowledge of journalistic law, ethics and best practices to ensure accuracy, fairness and defensibility
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects under strict deadlines
• Team Player with the ability to accomplish what needs to be done in a courteous, respectful, thoughtful manner
• Attention to detail, while also seeing the big picture
• Degree in Journalism or related field, or experience necessary for such a role
Compensation - $22.00+/hr commensurate with experience and skill level
