General Summary: The position of Manager, Community Engagement and Audience Development is an essential team member in the overall outreach, engagement and audience development strategy, as well as event facilitation and execution. The position reports to the Director of Community Engagement and Audience Development. This individual must possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Manage the day-to-day work of the Community Ambassador, part-time Community and Cultural Liaisons, with work schedules, timelines, on-air and on-line giveaways and all ambassador activities
• Create strategic plan for developing new relationships and outreach to potential partner organizations and coordinate the implementation of all WNYC and WQXR media sponsorship
• Manage station events and logistics including NYPR’s annual MLK, singles/social events and tapings
• Communicate all events information to participating departments to ensure timely coordination
• Determine staffing needs and work schedules necessary to implement all activities and events
• Serve as producer and editor of the diversity initiative weekly e-newsletter The Express
o Write and Edit the bi-weekly e-newsletter with the assistance of community ambassador, interns/volunteer
o Find innovative ways to grow the e-newsletter subscription database
• Provide critical support to develop new and non-traditional audiences through innovative community outreach, live tapings, special events, media tie-ins, e-communications and database management; and to the organization’s diversity initiative, specifically in the area of outreach database management and growth
• Manage, with assistance from the Community Ambassador, the online presence of the Community Engagement and Audience Development Department including all Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) and wnyc.org/wqxr.org
• Manage listener volunteers, interns and interim part-time assistance
• Work with The Takeaway, the Director of Community Engagement and Audience Development and Community Ambassador to create community engagement events
• Act as CAB (Community Advisory Board) liaison, handling the logistics, attending some meetings and coordinating on-air and online presence
• Comply with New York Public Radio and department policies and guidelines
• This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed
• Work on special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in non-profit public relations, communications, marketing, media or event planning
• Demonstrated experience managing and leading a team
• Excellent computer fluency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated experience working directly with members of the public and the ability to build and maintain working relationships with diverse groups in multicultural environments
• Ability to produce results under pressure, set priorities, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Energetic self-starter, able to work both independently and within a close-knit team
• Must be detailed oriented with proven ability to take initiative
• Must be flexible to work some evenings and weekends
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Requires the intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively and/or interact with other department staff, executives at New York Public Radio, colleagues and vendors
• Excellent communication skills -- both oral and written -- with an impressive reputation for building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
