Assistant Producer, The Brian Lehrer Show
WNYC Radio seeks an Assistant Producer for The Brian Lehrer Show, one of our flagship news/magazine talk shows.
The show’s production team strives to create a place, on-air and online, where listeners and newsmakers get together to get beyond the headlines. The Brian Lehrer Show is a live, daily, local call-in show. We cover news and public affairs all over the country and the world, with a special focus on local issues in New York and New Jersey. The show is a leader among public radio broadcasters in interactivity and crowdsourcing.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assist the producers and host in all aspects of program production
• Generate and research show topics and creative ideas that utilize the show’s various platforms
• Book and pre-interview guests
• Write scripts and prepare background materials for host
• Provide administrative support including bill reconciliation, booking studios, maintaining archives, databases, and other related duties as assigned
• Identify and edit tape for broadcast
• Write and distribute promotional copy
• Maintain the show’s website including writing copy, building surveys, quizzes, and other special features
• Maintain the show’s social networking presence
• Maintain relationships with sources, guests, and colleagues, on behalf of the show
• Comply with New York Public Radio and department policies and guidelines
• This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours/overtime as needed
• Work on other special projects and duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree required
• One year minimum journalism experience required
• Familiarity with journalism issues required
• Sound organizational skills, with great attention to detail required
• Extensive research skills required
• Ability to meet objectives under deadline pressure required
• Ability to work in a group environment, and take direction required
• Radio listener (public and commercial) preferred
• Excellent communication skills—both oral and written—with an impressive reputation for building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
• Requires the intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively and/or interact with other programming staff, executives at New York Public Radio, colleagues, sources and guests
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and AFTRA.
