Summary:
As the Manager, Communications, you will serve as the primary media liaison for the New York Liberty and lead day-to-day promotion of the team and its players.
You will facilitate team coverage through traditional and digital media outlets, field media requests, actively pitch features for players, coaches and staff, handle gameday media operations, and travel to away games with the team to serve as on site PR contact.
In This Role, You Will:
• Write and distribute press releases for player transactions, partnerships and community events
• Regularly maintain and distribute game notes; publish game notes, recaps, feature stories to official team website
• Field and respond to incoming media requests
• Provide regular updates regarding team news on applicable social channels
• Attend all team practices and adhere to WNBA mandated daily media availability
• Lead game day media relations duties for home games
• Manage game night staff, media availability with players and coaches, update and monitor team social media handles, assist with local and national television broadcasts
• Develop game day and season credentials for staff, media, and visiting teams.
• Compile and deliver all game packets to visiting team's hotel one day prior to home games
• Serve as on-site media relations contact and facilitate pregame and postgame media availability during away games
• Collaborate with other departments across the organization, including publicity, marketing, community relations, ticket sales, and sponsorship to push forward initiatives
• Attend team community events as media contact and build content for team web and social
• Regularly update and maintain team website (staff information, team history, video and photo galleries)
• Update team records, statistics, and player bio information during the off-season
• Aid team management in monitoring media reports, social media metrics, and other communications and PR critical metrics
• Work with team management on developing key messaging, marketing plans, and overall communications plans
• Coordinate annual media training for team staff and executives
• Film and edit video content which will include interviews, game and archival highlight footage, community and team events
• Utilize graphic design capabilities to design creative for web, social media, and team publications
You Are:
• A passionate public/media relations professional with at least three years of experience
• An ambitious self-starter who comes up with new approaches and is eager to try those out
• An experienced media professional with a background that includes conducting interviews, feature writing, and sports coverage
• A confident and creative content producer
• Able to maintain sensitive and confidential information
• Open to a variable work schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays and frequent business travel
• Able to multitask and prioritize assignments
• Knowledge of dynamic social tools including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
• Ambitious, with the ability to work independently
• Experienced user of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and well-versed with video production and editing software (Final Cut Pro X)
• Proficient with web editing, html and graphic design
Education
al Background:
• BA or BS in Communications, public relations, or a related field
