New York International Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) is seeking a Manager of Development and Communications to join its small - but mightily passionate and industrious - team of film, media, and arts and culture champions. Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Manager of Development and Communications will spearhead all of the organization's fundraising efforts including the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of government, foundation, corporate, and individual donors. The manager will also oversee the planning and execution of the organization's annual benefit event and membership drive. The manager will work closely with the Director of Programming, Education Manager, and other departments to ensure that all facets of the organization are adequately funded and communicated effectively to potential and existing funders.
This is an opportunity for a motivated and high-energy self-starter who enjoys working with a close-knit team, but who also craves taking the reins on initiatives and taking bold strides on their own. There is enormous potential to create meaningful and far-reaching impact in this role: though small in staff, ours is an organization that is generating significant growth each year with an ever-expanding national footprint among families, filmmakers, and the entertainment industry.
Principal Opportunities
- Manage the ground-up implementation of a sustainable development plan to raise approximately $1.1M annually; establish new strategies to meet the needs of the organization
- Manage communications that engage key constituents, notably patrons, members, and event audiences via: print and email campaigns, on-site signage, print materials, and remarks at Festival and benefit events, fundraising campaigns, and grant applications
- Cultivate key relationships with individual and institutional donors in the sectors of film, arts education, and media literacy
- Work closely with an energetic team to continually assess, report, and adapt fundraising activities that ensure the fiscal health of a growing organization
Primary Responsibilities
- Shape and support a culture of philanthropy within and around NYICFF while meeting quarterly and annual fundraising goals
- Oversee all daily development activities including, but not limited to, grant writing and research, database maintenance, gift processing, and moves management
- Implement and share development goals among all staff while building the knowledge, tools, resources, and collaborative workflow necessary to meet those goals
- Act as a frontline fundraiser by stewarding donors spanning all sources of funds
- Effectively connect the organization, staff, and board members with appropriate donors
- Manage daily communications to bolster fundraising efforts and position NYICFF to potential and
existing funders as a national presenter of and advocate for high-quality children's media
- Facilitate the work and continued growth of the Board of Directors, acting as a staff liaison for the
Board's Development and Governance committees
- Ensure the success of the annual benefit event-a major source of fundraising income
- Support organization-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion best-practices
- Participate in the hands-on, team-wide effort to produce the annual Festival and Industry Forum
Qualifications and Qualities
- Capacity and passion to learn and knowledgably advocate for NYICFF's mission and programs, especially in the context of current media landscape
- Three years of working experience with development and/or non-profit communications strategies
- Familiarity with the New York City and national philanthropic sectors, development practices, and
leaders, including key individual, foundation, corporate, and government arts funders
- Results-oriented yet sensitive to the often evolving needs of a growing organization
- Ability to work collaboratively, delegate effectively, and communicate clearly to all stakeholders
- Proficiency in writing, speaking, and presenting with ability to engage and inspire multiple
constituencies
- Ability to nimbly manage multiple relationships, deadlines, and projects, especially the
calendar-specific demands of an event-based organization
- Willingness to travel throughout NYC to engage partners
- Familiarity with industry-standard software and technologies
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, equivalent experience, or contributions
The Manager of Development and Communications position is a full-time role, with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
