Traveling Technician
About the job:
New Reality Co., the interactive studio behind the critically-acclaimed virtual reality experiences ''Giant'' and ''Tree'', is searching for a knowledgeable, highly-organized, and motivated freelance Traveling Technician.
We are accepting applications on a rolling basis.
A few places we've taken our projects to in the past few months:
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland (our 4th time showing with WEF)
Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan (museum designed by Zaha Hadid)
Gardens by the Bay in Singapore
United Nations General Assembly in NYC
Brazil, South Africa, Slovenia, Burning Man... all in the past 6 months!
As a Traveling Technician, you will:
Bring Tree and Giant VR experiences to conferences and festivals all over the world
Set up, operate, and perform troubleshooting the experiences when necessary
Pack and travel with or ship VR equipment and installation materials
Act as a docent for showing Tree and Giant VR experiences
Have the opportunity to travel the world and meet amazing and inspiring people
As a Traveling Technician, you must:
Be able to travel in and outside of the U.S.
Be a quick learner, and be able to remain calm in a fast-paced environment
Have familiarity with VR AR technology - you don't need to be an expert at game engines, but you'll react accordingly when Oculus pushes an update
Have a basic understanding of physical computing - again, you probably won't be writing code in Arduino, but you should be comfortable testing every part of the hardware setup
Have great interpersonal skills as you'll be representing the company and participants will want to ask you questions
Be able to document the setup through installation and demo
Past multimedia production experience is a plus
Given the current COVID-19 situation, we are, at the moment, putting our showcases on hold until further notice. In the meantime, we are still interested in meeting potential candidates, hoping you could join the team once everything is safely resolved.
About us:
New Reality Co. has shown in over 100 festivals around the world including, Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, TED and World Economic Forum, having produced award-winning immersive experiences, made possible through collaborations with many notable names in art, technology, film and new media.
Based in the Hudson Yards in New York City (R/GA) and Los Angeles, the NRC team has created influential, award-winning content in the cinematic VR world for their blend of multisensory VR with the goal of social and environmental impact. The selected candidate will assist the team and have access to unreleased and beta hardware/software as well as VR/AR events showcasing new content.
