Job Summary:
The 2021 Netflix Animation Early Creative Program for Story is now open for submissions!
The program will provide an opportunity for participants to hone their craft with the guidance of some of the Animation industry’s most talented artists. You’ll make connections, get the experience you need, and if all goes to plan, this may lead to a job offer on one of our productions.

Call for submissions: May 3rd, 2021
Portfolio Submission Deadline: May 21st, 2021
PROGRAM DATES:
Start dates Will vary depending on production schedules. Openings will vary between May 2021 through March 2022. Candidates will be notified once they are officially being considered for an interview with a specific production.
What are we looking for?
Emerging artists who want to further hone their skills with the mentorship of Netflix Animation’s industry experts.
Netflix Animation has exciting opportunities across animation formats like series, features, preschool, and adult. We are not beholden to a singular house-style or technique. Our creative teams are leading the way, creating their passion projects and telling their stories across millions of screens.
As we grow our Animation teams, we are looking for people from a wide range of backgrounds to reflect the global nature of our members. It takes a diversity of thought, culture, background, and perspective to create excellent art. We highly value the importance of diversity in our teams and recognize the even greater importance of building an inclusive environment where all employees feel equally welcomed and their voices heard.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be over 18 years of age to participate.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (both during and upon completion of the program).
Must have less than 12 months of professional experience in any form of Animation Art (Series, Feature, Gaming, Web, or Commercial).
Portfolio must demonstrate a strong understanding of visual storytelling and design fundamentals.
Must be available to work full time during the 4 month program period
A college degree or advanced education is not required.
Story Portfolio Guidelines:
We are looking for great storytellers with unique and authentic voices. We recommend that you present your strongest work and focus on quality over quantity.
Consideration for the Story Trainee Program is evaluated on the following areas:
Storytelling & Story Structure
Blocking/Staging
Composition
Perspective
Clarity (can the audience understand what you're visually trying to convey)
Character Acting
Draftsmanship (Ability to draw with intent and confidence. Pencil Mileage!)
Understanding of the animation pipeline. (How your work informs the pipeline.)
Submission Materials:
To be considered for the program please include links to your website/social media that include storyboard examples from personal and/or academic projects, story adaptations, or graphic novel excerpts that demonstrate your craft.
Observational sketches, ie. life drawings, and/or animal drawings is a plus.
Don’t forget to include your password if you have one set up to access materials on your portfolio.
