Netflix is recruiting for a Licensing Specialist based in the Tokyo Office. The Specialist will be a key member of the team, working on licensing agreements on both archive and new releases from major studios, TV broadcasting networks, local production companies and independent producers/distributors for digital streaming in Japan, and also on agreements with talent management and content rights management partners. S/he will report to the Manager of Content Acquisition, providing critical support in content licensing and negotiation.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in licensing and deep familiarity with the entertainment industry. In addition, the candidate will require strong critical thinking skills that allow for intense attention to detail as well as the ability to see the big picture. S/he should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, taking the initiative, managing multiple projects, and working under tight timeframes. S/he is also a motivated, self-starter with a keen interest in and aptitude for learning the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Negotiating and managing the execution of agreements and amendments with film studios, film aggregators, TV broadcasting networks, talent management, and content rights management partners, etc;
• Liaise with cross-functional teams and partners when necessary;
• Maintaining flexibility and openness to take on additional projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated good judgment and strong critical thinking skills;
• Prior experience with contract administration, management of licensing agreements in English and strong contractual understanding;
• Proven communication skills; must be articulate and professional both in written and verbal forms;
• Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment;
• High level of organization and ability to manage multiple projects with various deadlines;
• Strong follow-through;
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally;
• Strong experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. Experience with Google suite of programs a plus;
• Highly collaborative, resourceful, curious and a calm demeanor (and a good sense of humor);
• Working experience and fluency in English and Japanese.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
• BA/BS required;
• At least 5 years of work experience is required with at least 2 years of relevant experience;
• Prior studio, management consulting or media-focused technology experience and international experience are preferred but not required.
