The Director of Publicity, Korea will be based in Seoul and will work as part of the APAC Publicity team to formulate and implement strategy in Korea, whilst helping to guide the team's campaign work for the growing slate of Netflix content across APAC as a region. The position will provide a critical link between agency and Netflix country team in Korea and regional team in Singapore in promoting content on the service. It's the chance to be part of changing the entertainment landscape across the globe and to seize the opportunity to take different approaches in managing and executing promotional and publicity campaigns.
The Role
The Director will work across different disciplines that bring Original series, films and documentaries to fruition here at Netflix. He or she will drive innovative publicity campaigns for our international originals, whilst drawing on our incredible slate of global originals to drive our business in Korea and across APAC. As part of this work, he or she will spearhead the publicity contribution to our Korean cross-functional business strategy. He or she will also consult on title campaigns across the APAC region & manage a team of publicists.
The Director would formulate and drive creative and executable ideas, communicate priorities and present clear goals to stakeholders. The ideal candidate will use sound judgement to make wise decisions, think strategically and drive the team members to do the same. We are looking for someone who is able to inspire and lead his or her fellow publicists. The role will report to the Director of APAC Publicity in Singapore.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and deep understanding of the market. He or she will also not be afraid to challenge prevailing assumptions when warranted and suggest better approaches; make tough decisions without agonising and will be candid and direct, even when that approach might be controversial. He or she is scrappy, unafraid to jump in and handle tasks at all levels and thrive in an environment void of bureaucracy and layers.
The day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Hiring & managing a publicity team for Korea
• Partnering with cross-functional partners to build high-level business strategy
• Integrating global business strategy and messaging across the team's work
• Guiding (and at times directly handling) high-level conversations with filmmakers & showrunners
• Overseeing a high-performing team of local publicity managers handling series, films & documentaries
• Writing press releases
• Agency management
The successful candidate for the Director of Publicity Korea role will likely:
• Have 10 years of experience in a Korean entertainment PR setting - either agency, studio or TV network
• Have experience managing a team
• Possess a keen understanding of new and traditional media
• Be able & willing to think at a pan-regional level
• Be able to understand and comfortably interpret business and technology issues
• Be a clear and concise communicator
• Have excellent media relationships, experience executing a PR strategy and the ability to work well across disciplines to execute campaigns
• Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under deadline and thrive in a high energy, fast-paced environment
• Have experience managing agencies and be effective in dealing with talent, talent reps and showrunners / producers
