Director of Local Regulatory & Production Policy

This role is dedicated to U.S. Local Regulatory and Production Policy, focusing on studio locations in California, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York within the UCAN Public Policy team, and reports to the Director of U.S. State Regulatory and Production Policy. The position is based in Los Angeles, California, with significant travel.

The UCAN Public Policy team within Global Affairs advocates for a legislative and regulatory environment conducive to growth in the U.S. and Canada and serves as a strategic partner to internal business groups as they navigate the policy world.

As part of this team, the successful candidate will lead Netflix's local engagement and ensure a positive regulatory environment for the business in the United States, working with internal Netflix teams, policymakers, community groups, and third-party advocates to promote the development and success of Netflix projects and sound regulatory practices.

Responsibilities
• Support permitting, regulatory, and compliance requirements for Netflix projects, including land use, environmental permitting, transportation permitting, and state and local tax issues. This position will work closely with Netflix's real estate, construction, and studio management teams.
• Drive positive community engagement around Netflix projects by building local alliances with key stakeholders, including elected officials, community groups, non-profits, chambers of commerce, and other business groups.
• Bring value to our local communities through targeted sponsorships and employee participation. This role will help identify and engage with the local programs that can best benefit our local communities.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with state and local officials, including participating in local legislative hearings and local stakeholder meetings. Key states for this effort include California, New Jersey, New York, and New Mexico. Part of this responsibility will include hosting community screenings and other events.
• Help guide Netflix's local workforce training initiatives towards building a pipeline of skilled workers in key markets.
• Leverage data to create local economic and community impact assessments and drive local stakeholder support.

Qualifications
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in government or public policy.
• A deep understanding of the state and local regulatory process.
• Past success in bringing large capex projects to fruition.
• Experience in working with local permitting and regulatory agencies.
• Proven track record in supporting communities through corporate engagement.
• Skilled advocate with a keen ability to build relationships with diverse groups.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
• Experience working with or within studios, technology companies, regulatory or governmental agencies, or industry associations is helpful but not necessary.
• Willingness to travel.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $400,000-$700,000.
