It's an amazing time to be joining Netflix as we continue to transform entertainment globally. Netflix has grown to over 100 million members across the globe. With that we have a group of fervent fans that are genuinely engaged in our brand and content. To that end we're looking to establish a licensing and merchandising approach to help amplify fervor around key titles by developing new channels for consumers and communities to interact with Netflix.
We are pursuing consumer products and associated promotion because we believe it will drive meaningful show awareness/buzz with more tangible, curated ways to interact with our most popular content. We want licensed merchandise to help promote our titles so they become part of the zeitgeist for longer periods of time. Last but not least, merchandising and promotion will be used as a marketing tactic to capture member demand and delight our member community.
This role requires someone to take on the responsibility of creating an end-to-end strategy and executional plan for merchandising and promotion of the Netflix brand and/or content.
What you will do:
• Own licensing of our content across the category landscape (eg. books, comics, gaming toys, collectibles, soundtrack and apparel) including ownership of relationship with retailers and suppliers across geographies.
• Be an internal and external champion of the opportunity, vision, pitch and message with regards to our licensing strategy.
• Identify upstream requirements (legal, financial, business planning, approvals) and downstream creative approach for merchandise development that is relevant, topical and sparks member desire.
• Take a 'creative friendly' approach to licensing and ensure appropriate internal stakeholders are involved in key decision-making.
• Develop go-to-market plans (consumer, trade and retail marketing) with retail partners that leads to strong demand for our licensed products.
• Develop and implement a category strategy for growth through mass retail (both e-commerce and physical retail).
What we need from you:
• Demonstrated, 10 years of experience in building and owning the end-to-end licensing function at a reputable entertainment brand (studio, gaming, agency).
• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (preferred).
• Ability to work with; and innovate in new sales channels and business models (particularly ecommerce).
• Robust knowledge of the licensing landscape and value chain from ideation around IP through to delivery and consumer experience.
• Impeccable contacts and network of stakeholders across the licensing landscape.
• Deep engagement competency and ability to work with multiple, disparate stakeholders to achieve the best outcome for Netflix. You can read more about our company culture here.
