?This director-level role on the Film Business & Legal Affairs (BLA) team will serve as the lead for overall information and data management for Film BLA and oversee the Film Legal Professional Teams (Contract Management, Contract Admin, Legal Delivery). The role requires vision and strategic thinking around the data we have and our workflows in general.
Information Management
• Identify, organize, and meaningfully surface available data in the BLA workspace, and shape how we think about it, maintaining focus on the deal terms/data worth tracking to maximize return-on-investment (e.g. financial terms that can be used for precedent/data-driven decision making; deal terms needed to quickly answer questions from the business; analyze deal volume to promote efficient staffing and better, more equitable workload management)
• Implement a strategic approach to the trackers and Airtables used, monitoring broader tracker trends/tool adoption to keep Film BLA team's knowledge management efforts on the cutting edge and utilizing a common ''design language'' for such trackers to broaden their useability and improve information access for all interested parties
• Identify and advocate for more automated information solutions, leveraging pre-existing studio data and reducing manual data-entry/unnecessary replication of data
• Consolidate feedback and user experience input from various parts of the Film BLA org into one point of contact, streamlining communications with Legals Ops and the studio apps engineering teams and prioritize new feature requests/optimizations
• Socialize innovations with the broader Film BLA team and our cross functional partners who rely on the information we track
• Support Film BLA in the implementation of Legal Ops and Strategic Knowledge Management initiatives, maintaining a high level of alignment with these orgs in order to have a deep understanding of their proposals and implications for our team's workflows and leverage new opportunities and tools
• Integrating and managing BLA-specific content for the Film production manuals for both self- and partner-managed productions
Legal Professionals
• Oversee newly integrated BLA Legal Professional teams supporting the Film org, consisting of the Contract Administration team responsible for making contractually required payments, the Contract Management team responsible for tracking contractual obligations (including options and renewals), and the Legal Delivery team responsible for managing legal delivery on all Film productions
• Identify new opportunities for Legal Professionals to up-level the work of the Film BLA org and increase its operating efficiency
• Establish new workflows and enhancements to existing workflows for these teams and the broader Film BLA team to increase productivity
• Accelerate global shift away from manual, repetitive or purely administrative tasks, identifying best practices for the team utilizing Airtable and other 3rd party tools
Skills
• At least 7 years of relevant experience, including working in a legal environment such as with an in-house legal department or law firm
• Applied knowledge and experience with deal management, document and contract management in the legal environment
• A high level of organization, detail orientation and ability to time-manage across multiple deadlines
• Ability to - read and - understand - legal contracts - and articulate issues using? creative, production or financial context
• Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Airtable and the Google Suite; and
• BA/BS or would also consider JD, paralegals, law librarians, or others with track record in the space
In addition, the candidate will:
• Demonstrate good judgment, strong critical thinking skills and the desire and willingness to take ownership and control of complex projects;
• Curiosity and willingness to tackle matters outside their area of expertise;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (candor, honesty);
• Strong analytical (strategic and creative) capabilities and judgment;
• Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight time frames in a fast-paced environment;
