With over 130 Million subscribers enjoying great content in over 190 countries, it's an exciting time to work at Netflix. Our international efforts have brought Netflix to virtually all countries around the world and we're excited to bring even more of our Originals programming to our viewers around the globe.
Netflix seeks an experienced business and legal affairs executive to manage a team of attorneys and handle a wide array of responsibilities related to the development, production, acquisition, distribution and licensing of Netflix's original comedy content globally. This role would partner with the Original Comedy creative team responsible for stand up specials from Ellen DeGeneres, Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Ali Wong and many other top comics, and other variety and unscripted comedy content such as Def Comedy Jam 25 and Seth Rogen's Hilarity for Charity. The successful candidate will be an integral part of setting strategy for, and scaling our, original comedy initiative worldwide.
The successful candidate will lead a team of BALA executives located domestically and internationally, and work with the company's original comedy team to handle all business and legal affairs matters related to the structuring, negotiating, and drafting of agreements necessary to develop, produce and license variety specials, stand-up comedy specials, sketch series and unscripted comedy related programming for the company's original comedy initiative. The successful candidate should be extremely comfortable managing high performing executives, counseling creative partners, working closely with internal cross-functional partners in production, finance and other departments, communicating with talent representatives and productions, and making both business and legal decisions.
This is an opportunity to be a part of a public company with a great consumer brand as well as an opportunity to help Netflix shape the future of television.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing a team (preferably in multiple locations), and at least 12 years as a business and legal affairs executive handling content development, production and licensing, with a significant portion of such experience spent specializing in stand-up, sketch, unscripted and variety comedy programming, with direct experience negotiating and drafting all forms of production, talent, acquisition and licensing agreements for union and non-union productions. Passion for, and extensive knowledge of, comedy content is desired. The successful candidate will also have deep existing relationships with talent representatives and producers in the comedy industry.
The ideal candidate will have a strong production background (including international production experience) and vast experience dealing with talent, plus a broad understanding of television distribution (including digital distribution). Experience providing in-house support and managing outside counsel is strongly preferred.
