Counsel, Genre Animation Series
Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments. With high ambitions for original animation production, it's an exciting time to join Netflix and bring a powerful global platform to animation talent around the world.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Netflix seeks a collaborative entertainment attorney to join a growing business & legal affairs team focused on the development and production of animated series for more mature audiences (primarily 13 years old and up). The candidate will be primarily responsible for drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts, including above-the-line talent agreements, production services agreements, and license agreements. In addition, as the main legal contact for productions, the candidate will collaborate with and ensure information flow to internal partners (e.g., creative, production, finance, IP, employment, labor, tax, marketing and consumer products). The candidate must be comfortable challenging norms and creatively problem solving in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
The ideal candidate must be adept in counseling and collaborating with internal and external business partners, attorneys, producers, and production partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impact. Excellent drafting and communication skills are a must, as well as a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate will be proactive, welcome the opportunity to be part of an entrepreneurial organization, and thrive working in a global environment. Experience in animation is a plus but not required.
The candidate should be excited about growing our animation slate in the action, science fiction, fantasy, horror, thriller and anime-inspired content categories. Titles from the Genre Animation team include Castlevania, Yasuke, DOTA: Dragon's Blood, and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have at least two to six years of transactional entertainment legal experience working at a streamer/network/studio, production company, or law firm in TV and/or film.
In addition, the candidate will possess the following:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
• Curiosity and willingness to tackle matters outside their area of expertise;
• Strong analytical (strategic and creative) capabilities and judgment;
• Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight time frames in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, think pragmatically and be solution-oriented; and
• A passion for animation, anime or storytelling.
