The Opportunity
Are you excited about how great entertainment is created and enthralled by how technology is allowing consumers to discover and enjoy it? Do you want to help tell the story of a company delivering joy to its tens of millions of members all over the world and work closely with the talented and creative people dedicated to making it better? Do you enjoy writing, editing, collaborating, and planning media strategies in a fast-moving environment where responsiveness, clarity and communication are vital? We are looking for a talented Public Relations professional based in our CDMX office with a strong understanding of the media landscape in the country.
The Role
The Manager will be a member of a small and seasoned communications group that is focused in formulating, executing and sustaining media strategy for Netflix in Latin America. The Communications function is viewed by Netflix senior management as strategically critical to building on the company's established success and reinforcing its reputation in a fast-changing, complex and competitive media landscape. We tell our product, financial, innovation, and culture stories and engage consumer audiences on issues they care about, while working closely with other publicity and marketing groups to infuse these stories within their efforts.
The Manager will work with agency partners in promoting the brand as the best destination for entertainment, how we fit into people's lives through content, our technology and our overall service. He/she will serve as the expert on the market, able to convey cultural needs and nuances that contribute to our global narrative.
This individual will help build and reinforce the Netflix brand and its service around the world, focusing on technology and a wide range of business issues. She/he will manage product announcements and direct thought leadership around Netflix technology, culture and business matters, all in close collaboration with the Director of Communications and other communications, publicity, marketing and policy colleagues around the world.
The role has strong cross functional interaction with teams across Latin America with a high level of visibility and impact within the business. This position will be part of the Global Communications team, helping direct the activities of the department and determine overall strategy for the Mexican market. Also, candidates should be able to formulate and manage a budget, and give visibility into their process successfully.
Strong candidates are good collaborators, clear communicators, and can handle a high volume of work. They are curious and ask questions, and also contribute effectively outside of their specialty. Successful candidates will have a candid and direct communication style, be willing to admit their mistakes quickly and question values inconsistent with Netflix values and culture.
They understand that sometimes the job requires delivering bad news, and they're tactful in handling such issues.
In addition, the Manager must:
• Have experience working on global teams and managing PR campaigns.
• Love brands, appreciate a good brief and understand what to do with a genuine insight.
• Understand how to build and maintain relationships with key journalists and different kinds of influencers on behalf of Netflix.
• Be capable as serving as a company spokesperson in different cultural and media milieus.
• Be confident and creative in their writing, capable of crafting everything from executive messaging to experience at using various tools to deliver a message being videos or animation.
• Really loves entertainment...being a TV, movie or Netflix junkie is even better
• Speak fluent Spanish (native speaker) with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be able to function autonomously and effectively as part of a loosely coupled, but highly-aligned team.
• Be deeply familiar with, and enthusiastically curious about, technology, entertainment, intellectual property, privacy, and other Web issues
• Be an entrepreneurial self-starter who comes up with new approaches and is eager to try those out.
Qualifications
• The successful candidate for the role will likely possess 10 years in a corporate or agency setting.
• Candidates with broad knowledge of TV or entertainment, pop culture & lifestyle trends, etc., in general and Latin America, are preferred.
• Direct experience with technology and/or entertainment businesses is also highly relevant.
