Role Summary:
NBCUniversal is seeking a PRODUCTION ATTORNEY responsible for legal oversight of the production of a daily syndicated television program to identify legal, broadcast standards and practices, compliance, and other corporate concerns for The Kelly Clarkson Show (“Seriesâ€). Reports to the Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, Production Executive and Executive in Charge of Production. Manages oversight of a Legal Assistant and works closely with the clearance team and music services.
Responsibilities:
• Act as primary liaison among Executive Producer, Program and Production Executives, Business & Legal Affairs, Production Operations and Production Services regarding all legal, compliance and risk management issues
• Draft, review, and negotiate production-related agreements, including, but not limited to, vendor agreements, employment agreements, license agreements, clearance agreements, appearance releases, location agreements, trade-outs, integration agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
• Provide timely and thoughtful advice on potential risks and issues associated with broadcast and digital content, including identifying legal, broadcast standards and practices, compliance, regulatory (FTC and FCC) and other corporate concerns for the Series.
• Research and evaluate legal issues related to production/programs, including conducting due diligence as needed.
• Review and provide edit notes on Series for broadcast standards and practices issues and compliance/regulatory (i.e. FTC/FCC) concerns and identify potential legal issues
• Attend in-studio tapings (and on-location shoots as needed) and review each program for final approval.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• JD degree from accredited law school, state bar membership and entertainment experience required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and navigating the internet

• Must be able to work in New York, NY and remotely
• Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
Desired Characteristics:
• Experience in television production preferred
• Strong legal analysis skills
• Ability to assess risk and to make sensitive contextual value judgments concerning program content and program guests
• Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team, but also able to make independent, well-considered decisions under deadlines
• Experience in a position requiring practical problem solving and strong customer service skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with the creative community, program guests, producers and internal executives
• Solid academic background and strong writing skills

• Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
