Multi-Platform Specials Director, NBC Connecticut

NBC Connecticut is looking for a versatile and highly-motivated director to oversee content for the multiple platforms we program. The Multiplatform Specials Director will be responsible for ensuring our platforms have the latest news and weather information, working closely with reporters and producers to grow our audience on all platforms.
This person will also handle the daily planning and demands of the NBC Connecticut Investigative and Specials unit that includes NBC Connecticut Responds. The job includes management of special promotable content produced by other members of the newsroom. The role requires excellent news judgment, mastery of legal and editorial standards, a keen eye for great content on social platforms and the ability to juggle multiple projects on all platforms.
• Define the overall digital editorial vision for NBC Connecticut and lead content teams in executing that strategy across all platforms, includingthe website, social media accounts, mobile apps, streaming platforms and other emerging platforms.
• Coordinate and create unique content and the presentation of long-form series for all relevant platforms under the direction of the VP of News.This includes organizing content, overseeing research, writing, accuracy and delivery on schedule.
• Provide oversight and leadership on story selection and execution for the station’s investigative and consumer unit.
• Lead the newsroom in publishing across all platforms, including training and coaching employees in multiplatform content, effectively using social media channels to reinforce both brands as well as authentically connect with users.
• Liaise with NBCU Local national leadership team, providing regular updates of business strategies and objectives.
• Represent NBC Connecticut on monthly investigative division-wide meetings, providing regular updates and collaboration opportunities.
• Monitor traffic, qualitative and engagement trends for digital and mobile platforms and share with the leadership team. Set and monitor traffic and engagement goals for editorial team.
• Work closely with Brand Marketing in marketing efforts for non-linear platforms.
• Share responsibility for determining the composition and flow of all special packages, selecting video, writing and copy-editing stories. Work closely with producers, anchors, reporters, editors and technical crews to make certain program elements meet NBC News Standards as well as the NBC Connecticut News Strategy.
• Participate in daily planning meetings. Contribute ideas for news programming based on the NBC Connecticut News Strategy.
• Establish and maintain a professional, trained and motivated staff through effective implementation of NBC’s performance management process.
• Manage contracts for content partnerships and other legal issues of website.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a television or digital management or operational role; including time in a news content leadership position
• A minimum of 1 year experience working on investigative projects
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

• Ability to effectively lead and manage a staff in a creative, demanding, and fast-paced environment
• Experience managing online editorial teams, with the ability to coach, mentor, direct, and provide feedback
• Experience with social media content creation and strategy
• Strong journalism and editorial skills; high journalistic integrity
• Demonstrated knowledge of video editing tools like Adobe Premiere and photo editing tools like Adobe Photoshop a plus.
• Experience or demonstrated skill with video content acquisition (e.g. video camera, iPhone video, DSLRs, GoPro, etc.)
• Experience working with data, visualizations, multimedia and investigative content
• Excellent news instincts with the ability to react decisively to breaking news.
