This is a Full Time Job
NBC Connecticut is looking for a Meteorologist to join the StormTracker team in Connecticut. Our next Meteorologist must be able to weave the science behind weather into a creative, distinctive forecast on all platforms. Accuracy counts! When not forecasting, the successful candidate will be out in the field generating interesting weather-related stories, with an emphasis on climate change reporting.Duties include taking a proactive approach to developing content, reacting to breaking weather news and turning unique stories on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will learn to use all applications available to do so. You’ll also work with our team of Meteorologists, News Managers, Assignment Editors and Producers to establish a network of contacts and sources across Connecticut.

• Drive accurate weather forecasts and content on all platforms.
• Deliver urgent and accurate breaking weather news.
• Work directly with WSI/Weather Company to troubleshoot issues or needs.
• Keep news team informed of upcoming weather conditions, communicating with managers and Producers daily.
• Use augmented reality in the studio and in the field to tell the market’s weather stories in a way that connects with and captivates viewers.
• Turn packages weekly on environmental and meteorological topics that impact our audience.
• Own the big weather story by reporting live in the field during storms.
• Own climate change reporting in the market, focusing on its impacts to Connecticut.
• Pitch story ideas daily when you are scheduled to report.
• Produce weather graphics and analyze data from the National Weather Service as well as other meteorological sources.
• Produce weather forecasts, segments, and stories.
• Work with the producers and news team to create complete coverage of weather. Also prepare and post forecasts for multiple platforms, including streaming sites.
• Some attendance at community and weather-related events will be required.
• Visit schools and other STEM-related classes weekly.
Qualifications
• Minimum of three years’ experience as a television weather meteorologist/anchor.
• Bachelor’s Degree in meteorologyor equivalent experience
• Meteorological certification
Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and overnights.
• Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift
• Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CT.
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• This position is a SAG-AFTRA Represented job. Successful candidate will be required to join the SAG-AFTRA Union upon employment if not already a member.
• Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
Desired Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent experience
• Able to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news.
• Able to handle working under the pressure of intense deadlines.
• Possess the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to enterprise, research, and plan stories.
• Demonstrated experience generating and producing stories.
• Prior experience delivering taped and live reports.
• Can act decisively under stress and tight deadlines.
• Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage.
• Technologically savvy with strong computer skills (working knowledge of WSI/Weather Company system preferred.)
