This is a Full Time Job
The News Group legal team provides editorial, transactional and production legal support to all News Group businesses and newsrooms. The team is primarily located in Rockefeller Center in New York City, with lawyers also based in Miami and Washington, DC.
Position Overview:
The Counsel will support commercial transactions for News Group businesses, with a focus on NBCU Local.
Responsibilities:
• Negotiate, draft and interpret a broad range of commercial agreements, including vendor, technology, equipment, affiliation, professional/consulting services, content license, partnership, sponsorship, events production, venue, affiliate and distribution deals.
• Substantive deal areas cover broadcast, digital, audio, streaming, commerce, subscription, and events.
• Manage renewals, amendments, and lifecycle of various agreements
• Support Local leaders across the country by counseling on and transacting deals to further their station’s specific priorities
• Advise our direct-to-consumer businesses on terms of use, product development, subscription flows, marketing and promotions, privacy and consumer protection compliance more generally
• Partner with Business Development/Strategy, Finance, Operations & Technology, editorial leaders and specialist lawyers across NBCUniversal’s Legal Department
• Ensure consistent application of company-wide best practices and policies in areas such as cyber security, privacy, insurance, and compliance
• Leverage technology and strong working knowledge of industry developments to deliver practical, creative solutions to deal-related problems
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• 4 years of transactional experience at a law firm or comparable in-house position
• Experience transacting deals in the news or entertainment industry preferred
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of New York, or another State Bar with registration as in-house counsel in New York
• High level of integrity and professionalism
• Solid writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
