Role Purpose
The NBCUniversal Advertising & Marketing Law Department is seeking an experienced attorney to join the team, which provides support to creative partnerships, sponsorships, marketing, promotions, brand franchise, events and publicity teams across NBCUniversal's Film, TV and Streaming businesses. The position involves working with various business teams across the NBCUniversal portfolio, including NBC, Peacock, Bravo, Oxygen, SyFy, and USA. This position will be based at either the company's New York, NY or Universal City, CA office.
Job Duties
The candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Drafting and negotiating various commercial agreements related to the advertising, marketing, promotion, production, publicity, and exploitation of television shows, short form content, and related IP, including: license agreements, clearances, talent and materials releases, voiceovers, sponsorships, and brand integration agreements; commercial and book tie-ins; and charitable partnerships, including the development, production, and exploitation of creative content agreements
• Provide legal support relating to the development, production and exploitation of advertising and other sponsored content for all of the company's television and digital businesses
• Manage all aspects of promotions for NBCUniversal's entertainment, sports, and news networks, as well as digital properties and stations; draft and review sweepstakes, contests, and game rules; and prepare affidavits, releases, online voting rules, prize provider agreements, and on-air, online, and print disclaimers
• Advise on all aspects of marketing production, including working with production shoots teams and offering counsel on production compliance
• Stay current on complex marketingâ€''related legal issues to provide timely and thoughtful advice on potential risks
• Vet promo spots for on-air and digital distribution
• Review creative and advertising materials for regulatory compliance, guild considerations, clearances and intellectual property matters
• In consultation with the Labor & Employment team, advise on SAG/AFTRA and SAG Commercials Contract issues related to advertising, marketing and exploitation
• In consultation with the Privacy legal team, provide privacy-related advice in connection with promotions and marketing games, as well as email and mobile campaigns
• Assist in drafting, and advising on, companywide policies for social media, branded and custom content integrations, influencer engagement and native advertising
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of New York or California, or willingness and qualification to be registered in-house counsel
• 3-5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department of a major media company
Desired Characteristics
• Experience with marketing, advertising, media or production matters
• Experience in promotions (contests, sweepstakes, giveaways)
• Excellent drafting, negotiating and analytical skills
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, enabling the candidate to work with multiple personalities and styles at all levels of the organization
• Highly detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Self-starter with a very strong work ethic, as well as the ability to work as part of a team but also independently with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills
• Sound business judgment and adaptability to manage multiple time-sensitive matters, including appropriately prioritizing among them
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and flexibility in a rapidly changing business environment
Additional Requirements
• Must be willing to work in New York, NY or Universal City, CA
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must maintain confidentiality of projects, legal and business information at all times
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
