Responsibilities
NBCUniversal's Owned Television station in San Diego is looking for a Chief Photographer. As Chief Photographer, you will lead the team of photojournalists, ensuring they deliver creative, high level storytelling to best serve our viewers. Specifically, the Chief Photographer will:
• Act as the liaison between the photographers in the field and upper management. Communicate needs of each to the other to ensure we are positioned to deliver the best possible product. Ensure team members in the field are aware of newsroom strategy and how it impacts them. Proactively communicate with the editorial and technology teams on work status, focus, etc.
• Establish and maintain standards for style and quality of video production, with the understanding that different platforms may benefit from different approaches.
• Provide regular feedback and coaching to photographers. Identify training resources to continue to grow their skills and advance their work.
• Identify the latest advances in technology and make recommendations on what to purchase, with input from the photographers and in partnership with the VP, Technology.
• Effectively roll out new technologies to photographers and others in the newsroom who interact with them. Create timelines, devise training, identify ways to measure success, and flawlessly execute this vision.
• Effectively manage a team of professional photographers by providing regular feedback, completing/delivering annual reviews, making recommendations related to potential merit increases, developing their skills, providing coaching with the goal of helping them to achieve their career goals, and skillfully managing any challenging conversations relative to performance or other items.
• Train photographers and MMJs on new technology, ensure they are knowledgeable on all equipment and ways of sending footage. Provide ongoing support and follow up.
• Manage site surveys for high profile shoots and identify which photographer to send, matching skills with the needs of the shoot.
• Attend monthly division-wide newsgathering call and other meetings as assigned
• Manage inventory and distribution of non-capital items in tandem with news operations manager.
• Work as a field photographer as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements
•Minimum 5 years experience shooting videotape and knowledge of live remote capabilities in a Broadcast station
• Minimum 5 years experience operating ENG live/microwave truck.
•Minimum 5 years experience operating communication tools and staying connected with the assignment constituencies (i.e., use of email software, cell phone, messaging tools, etc.)
•Minimum 5 years experience editing stories.

•Physical requirements required to perform medium/heavy physical work which includes:
~Lifting and carrying camera equipment ranging from 15 lbs. to 30 lbs. (in camera weight) for extended periods of time to shoot on remote locations.
•Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
•Must have a valid CA driver's license
•Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift
•Must be 18 years or greater
•Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
•Must accept Solutions as NBCUniversal's Alternative Dispute Resolution program

•Previous management experience
•Knowledge of P2 Cameras and Adobe Premiere Pro & Adobe Creative Cloud
•Knowledge of wireless newsgathering technology
•Team player who is flexible
