NBCUniversal News Legal Group
The NBCUniversal News Legal Group supports NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC News Studios, NBCUniversal Local, Telemundo and E! News. The Group's content lawyers advise on newsgathering, pre-broadcast and pre-publication review, intellectual property, and regulatory issues. The Group's transactional attorneys cover licensing, digital, vendors, production, talent, development, events and partnership deals. The Group is located primarily in New York City, with some News lawyers in New Jersey, Miami, London and Singapore.
Position Overview
The Associate Counsel, News Group, will handle a broad range of commercial and editorial agreements across the News Group and support production for CNBC Prime and NBC News Studios. The position is based in New York and reports to Raneshia Smith-Duke, Vice President, NBCUniversal Local.
Responsibilities:
• Draft a broad range of commercial agreements in support of all News Group properties, including for example licensing, sponsor, contributor, location, production services, partnership, digital and vendor agreements.
• Support production legal for NBC News Studios and CNBC Prime programming, to advise on matters such as insurance requirements, COVID production compliance, appearance releases, casting issues, and contributor and indemnity agreements.
• Partner with specialist lawyers in NBCUniversal's Legal Department and other NBCU experts on defamation, finance, tax, insurance, employment, intellectual property, and privacy issues.
• Support and partner with legal colleagues in the News Group; contribute to an inclusive, collaborative team culture; take initiative to deliver value and support the production and distribution of the highest quality news content in the industry.
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
• Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school or comparable law school outside of the United States. Member in good standing of the State Bar of New York or another State Bar and registered as in-house counsel.
• 1 years of general commercial legal experience. Experience in the news or entertainment industry preferred.
• Basic understanding of intellectual property law.
