Role Purpose
NBCUniversal has an exciting career opportunity for an Associate Counsel/Counsel position in our Music Business & Legal Affairs department, reporting to the Vice President of Music Business & Legal Affairs. The Music Business and Legal affairs team is responsible for advising the various clients across NBCUniversal on a wide array of media, music and entertainment issues worldwide.
Job Duties
• Negotiate, draft, review, and analyze music and media agreements, including agreements for: talent, producers, soundtrack distribution, songwriters and co-publishing
• Advise client groups - including marketing, home entertainment, franchise management, and consumer products - regarding music rights and clearances for use of content on their platforms
• Provide general advice and support concerning music rights and music-related legal issues to the business
• Advise clients regarding union compliance and performing rights concerns
• Maintain the integrity of business practices and policies
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
• JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
• Member of the California State Bar, or willingness and qualification to be registered in-house counsel in California
• Minimum of 1 year of experience for Associate Counsel, or 4 years of experience for Counsel, preferably in a music business affairs, rights & clearances, or licensing capacity with experience in label relations, publishing, union agreements, or a related field
• Strong background in the area of copyright law (US and foreign) and intellectual property matters

• Ability to respond quickly and effectively to client concerns, questions, and issues with a problem-solving approach
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative work style
• Capability to exercise creativity and responsiveness to challenges requiring informed and timely decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-intensive environment

Salary Range: $100,000-$130,000 for Associate Counsel / $140,000-$170,000 for Counsel (both bonus eligible)
