As a member of the NBC Sports Communications Department, the Senior Publicist, Communications is responsible for working with the team to generate strategic publicity plans, execute media opportunities, and support day-to-day publicity needs across the NBC Sports portfolio. The senior publicist will also be on-site, as needed, to support coverage at major events.
The role calls for division- and company-wide collaboration, requiring work with NBC Sports’ production, programming, and marketing departments as well as other communications departments within Comcast NBCUniversal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute publicity strategy to secure media coverage on NBC Sports’ programming, production, announcers and additional coverage elements.
• Write and distribute press releases.
• Create, manage and evolve press lists and targets.
• Interact with talent, and tell their stories – pitch the story, arrange the interview, and prepare messaging, where appropriate.
• Contribute social media content and ideas for NBC Sports Communications’ platforms.
• Work with NBC Sports Communications team to support all properties and events where appropriate.
• Coordinate with other areas of NBC Sports, specifically Talent, Production, Programming, and Marketing on a daily basis to help develop story ideas.
• Identify, establish, and maintain personal relationships with key contacts in the press and industry partners.
• Travel to events, as needed, to assist PR efforts.
• Field press inquiries.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Proactive communications professional with 5-8 years of sports-focused experience, with regular interaction with outlets covering sports and media.
• Ability to cultivate and pitch stories, create messaging documents, prepare spokespeople, and handle in-bound press inquiries.
• Exceptional collaboration skills to work with necessary internal and external groups.
• Proven writing skills, with examples of written work such as press releases, bios, or media guides.
• Experienced traveler and knowledge about how to handle publicity at major sporting events.
• Company-wide policy requires four days per week minimum in office, Monday through Thursday, based in Stamford, Conn. Exceptions made for travel.

• Preexisting relationships with reporters in sports media, ideally also with contacts with outlets covering entertainment, music, style, and culture.

• A collaborative team player who seeks out partnership, while leading and maintaining multiple individual value streams.
• Experience working for a media company or within a large corporation a plus.
• Photoshop, Power Point, and social media skills.
This position has been designated ashybrid, generally contributing from the Stamford, CT office a minimum of four days per week.
