This is a Full Time Job
NBC News is hiring a full-time weekend copy editor for its digital team, focused on journalism published on nbcnews.com. As our Senior Copy Editor, you should have experience with an established news operation â€'' a newspaper, magazine or website â€'' with a proven ability to uphold quality and accuracy. Experience in writing outstanding ledes, nut grafs and headlines is essential; familiarity with the AP stylebook is preferred.
This editor will work 10-hour days, four days a week: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shift will begin in the late morning to early afternoon. This position reports to the lead copy editor for NBC News Digital and may involve managing another copy editor.
Responsibilities:
• Work quickly and efficiently on news articles and breaking blog posts on tight deadlines, fixing errors of spelling, grammar, syntax and style
• Help reporters and story editors check facts, smooth awkward language, improve copy and identify fix issues of structure, clarity, tone and logic
• This position can be remote or hybrid (if hybrid, you're generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week)
Qualifications
• At least 5 years working at a major newspaper, magazine or news website
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
• Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding and competitive environment
• Must have a working knowledge of digital media technology, particularly content-management tools and communicating within the office, primarily through Slack
• Demonstrated experience in helping writers and editors improve and tighten copy
