Photography Director, NBC News & MSNBC

Responsibilities
NBC News Digital is seeking a Photography Director to join our growing Art and Photo Department. The Photography Director will work closely will the Art Directors to create and expand upon the visual direction of text articles across nbcnews.com and msnbc.com. The Photography Director will supervise and mentor a team of photo editors, and will collaborate daily with editors and reporters across the Digital org.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of photo editors, and manage our nearly 24/7 team coverage
• Work closely with creative leadership to define a vision and standard for news and opinion photography across nbcnews.com, msnbc.com, and our social platforms
• Provide clear and conceptually driven guidance and art direction for all photography on our websites and social platforms
• Commission and photo edit freelance photographers, along with managing contracts and invoicing
• Propose and project manage visual coverage ideas during breaking and developing news, including (but not limited to) working with NBC's newsgathering operation to commission on-the ground photographers, original visual-first narratives, etc.
• Develop and manage Digital’s relationships with photo agencies and photo vendors
• Work with multiple stakeholders to execute daily and long-term assignments from editors on a wide range of topics and areas of coverage
• Monitor news agency feeds to identify strong images for breaking and developing news stories
• Ensure use of copyrighted and/or user-generated images comply with NBC’s rights-and-clearances protocols

Qualifications
/Requirements
• Experience managing a team of photo editors and/or photographers
• At least five years of experience as a photo editor at a news organization
• Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment
• Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
• Must be willing to work in New York City
