NBC News is seeking a seasoned, driven Producer to support our Senior Legal Correspondent on all aspects of reporting, storytelling, and live programming. This producer will work closely with the Correspondent to pitch, develop and execute compelling journalism on a range of topics and issues, including the Supreme Court, important state and local cases, constitutional challenges, high-profile criminal cases and significant legal challenges and/or developments. This position will require both hard news and feature producing skills, experience package producing as well as in live programming and breaking news. The position will require having an eye on enterprise and feature reporting targets, as well, to support the full range of stories in this correspondent’s wheelhouse. Agility, versatility and a willingness to embrace different formats, platforms and show needs –from morning show storytelling to hard news evening broadcasts to native vertical video producing.
The ideal candidate is a creative journalist with sharp editorial judgment, strong writing and research skills, forward thinking with the confidence to thrive under pressure. This producer should be equally at home just off the set, in the field, or in an interview room. This producer should be adept at delivering both live and taped segments that meet NBC’s highest editorial standards. The best fit for this role is someone energized by the urgency of breaking legal news and also passionate about crafting longer-form narratives with impact.

Responsibilities
• Partner with Correspondent, senior editors and show teams to develop, report, and deliver strong, visually compelling stories with clear narratives and deeply researched journalism.
• Pitch, field produce, write, and fact-check stories across NBC News linear and streaming platforms, including daily news, longform pieces, and cross-platform content.
• Conduct original reporting, deep research, and source interviews on legal issues ranging from constitutional challenges to criminal court cases.
• Secure guest bookings in a competitive environment; conduct pre-interviews and prepare talking points.
• Travel at a moment’s notice to cover a story and stay on the road as long as the story requires.
• Possesses a collaborative spirit while being able to carry the load when needed.
• Oversee field operations, including live shots, remote anchor setups, and breaking news coverage.
• Track and manage correspondent’s schedule/maintain upcoming legal calendar.
• Work with editors to ensure high-quality video packages, graphics, and sound.
• Partner with Legal & Standards to ensure all content adheres to editorial and corporate guidelines.
• Maintain strong communication between the Correspondent, senior leadership, and production teams.
• Contribute ideas for a wide range of content including news-of-day, features, profiles, and human-interest stories that resonate with morning and evening audiences.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in network news, cable, or talk show production, including live and taped segments.
• Strong journalistic writing, research, and editorial judgment skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. legal affairs, Supreme Court coverage, high-profile criminal cases, and major judicial developments.
• Experience shooting (DSLR or similar) and editing (Avid and/or Adobe Premiere).
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments under tight deadlines.
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime with short notice.
• Proficiency in using PACER, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and submitting FOIA requests.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
Additional Requirements
This position is hybrid: generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week. This role will report into our Investigative Unit.
