Overall objectives:
This position works closely with the SVP of Business Operations in developing and implementing a strategy to promote the Los Angeles Sparks in the community via educational experiences and charitable initiatives. The position works with the other LA Sparks departments, partnerships, public and media relations, game day operations, website coverage and social media engagement to optimize the work of the department. As this department grows you may lead additional full time or seasonal employees. This department works with and supports all departments of the organization.
Duties and responsibilities
• Lead and develop all aspects of the LA Sparks community relations department
• Assist the Senior Vice President in the development and management of the community relations strategy and business plan
• Lead and implement comprehensive community relations strategy to include participation in events and support the research, strategic development, planning and implementation of all Community Relations programs and events as assigned
• Develop and maintain effective, dedicated relationships with community organizations to meet the company's philanthropic goals, as well as position the company as a strong community partner
• Develop initiatives and cause marketing campaigns to promote a consistently positive image of the company and its events and games
• Develop programs, in line with the Community Relations strategy, geared towards building community awareness of the LA Sparks
• Maintain records of all incoming/outgoing donations, case and merchandise and manage department budget with an eye for building new revenue streams to support initiatives
• Oversee Volunteer Opportunities for the Sparks' Basketball Operations, Players, Front Office Staff, Members and Community
• Management of recruiting, maintaining and fostering Charitable and Non-Profit organizations for in-arena and community events, games, campaigns and programs
• Work closely with Public Relations, Ticket Sales and Sponsorship departments to build and support strategic programs, initiatives and activations
• Support and contribute to the development of eCommunication strategies including websites, eNewletters and interactive communication
Qualifications and requirements
• 4 -5 years of experience in community relations or foundations, preferably sports or entertainment industry
• Bachelor's degree required
• A real passion for community service, and a broad knowledge of non-profit organizations
• Should have an uncompromised ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records
• Should have a shown history of successful fundraising and management background
• Impeccable ability to prioritize tasks, contribute to a healthy, productive work environment, and follow through on duties as assigned
• Strong project management, organizational and time management skills
• Keen attention to detail, strong conflict resolution, problem solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to build and maintain productive, positive relationships through strong communication and social skills
Work environment
Office hours are typically Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Staff are required to work Sparks home games, in addition to external events including but not limited to: charity and networking events. Work is generally performed within a professional environment, with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in a sports arena which includes bleachers/steps.
