JOB DESCRIPTION
The National Geographic Television team is seeking a qualified candidate for a VP, Development role. This executive will be a senior member of the creative team who will help evolve and grow the brand through the development of innovative non-scripted series and specials for both linear television and Disney+.
Responsibilities:
• Implement the creative strategy as defined by the senior leadership team to increase viewership across multiple platforms through the development/production of unique, compelling, and brand-appropriate non-scripted content across.
• Develop and oversee the production of non-scripted series from pitch through greenlight.
• Self-generate show ideas and concepts, and field pitches from outside producers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with producers and talent in the non-scripted series arena.
• Provide ongoing guidance on key casting decisions.
• Interface with production executives as needed on relevant production issues.
• Partner with the Scheduling department on series launches, stunts and general programming needs
• Collaborate with other Nat Geo/D+ departments on various issues (Production Management, S&P, PR, Marketing, Digital Media, etc.) through development.
• Spearhead problem solving and crisis management resolution with network partners and outside producers on all production and programming issues
• Manage special projects and assignments as required.
• Lead and mentor more junior team members.
• Speak at industry conferences and markets.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated track-record developing/producing commercially successful and/or critically acclaimed non-scripted series.
• Solid knowledge of the non-scripted production process.
• Strong relationships with non-scripted production companies, agents, producers, etc.
• Demonstrated creative and development skills.
• Self-motivated to develop new ideas.
• Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management.
• Ability to multitask and manage complex projects.
