JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager, Program Strategy & Content Planning is responsible for the planning and the performance of National Geographic linear channel as well as channel content on non-linear platforms. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for communicating and operationalizing programming strategies with internal and external partners while assisting the Director with various projects and responsibilities. The position requires a keen eye for detail along with strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
An Ideal candidate for this role must have a passion for the television industry, a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities, the ability to quickly adapt to new system and workflows, and must be able to handle work both independently and while also collaborating in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
• Accountable for the full implementation of total day linear programming schedules for NGC, from episodic planning through to ensuring content is presented accurately on end platforms
• Responsible for performance of the linear & non-linear schedule to deliver on Ad Sales targets with specific oversight of linear non-prime dayparts.
• Adapt broad departmental strategies into actionable, tactical measures to advance company objectives.
• Manages windowing content launch optimization on DTC platforms in partnership with Director and Disney+/Hulu teams to optimize supply of fresh content and maximize promotional windows.
• Communicates relevant schedule and planning information to internal stakeholders.
• Ensures accuracy of schedule implementation across various systems.
• Provides strategic feedback on editorial projects in early phases of development.
• Represents department in operational meetings and works with Business Technology team to ensure systems are optimized for business needs.
• Translate data from Insights and Analytics team to actionable Programming plans.
• Troubleshoots issues related to the schedule, metadata and workflow on all platforms.
• Build, check, and publish programming within the CMS as needed. Manage inventory of thousands of hours of new and library content.
• Manages Coordinator of Programming Strategy & Content Planning, providing leadership and technical guidance.
• Ad hoc support on a variety of projects as needed.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience within content planning, scheduling or digital media.
• In-depth understanding of Scheduling and Programming and a comprehensive knowledge of cable network operations.
• Advanced data literacy.
• Passion and insight into National Geographic content and The Walt Disney Company segments, brands and franchises, the elements that define them, and expertise to build further audience engagement.
• Strategic, creative, and entrepreneurial mindset.
• Superior organizational, prioritization, and time management skills; ability to execute against multiple, high-priority projects, with a keen attention to detail.
• Highly developed written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior management, staff, and external research professionals.
• Strong emotional intelligence and collaborative spirit.
• Able to lead people (both direct teams and indirect teams) to deliver above expectations
• Proven ability to work across a highly matrixed organization while also able to self-motivate.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive working in an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Streaming experience a plus.
• Multilingual fluency a plus.
