JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
* Lead a small but mighty production team. Provide critical input on production schedule. Guide producers through all stages of the production process, including research, reporting, pitching, interviewing, cutting tape, scripting, editing, and mixing. Develop and coach producers and hosts. Work independently on episodes for Overheard at National Geographic
* Essential to the creative ideation and execution of Overheard.
* Work closely with Executive Producer, Senior Editor and Hosts to ensure team is meeting regular deadlines. Maintain journalism ethics of National Geographic.
* Ensures high quality journalism and production at all times.
* Collaborate with extended podcast team, i.e. photo and web departments, advertising, cross platform promotion, etc.
* Essential for effective packaging and promotion of podcasts.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent and minimum 8 years of professional audio or podcast experience. At least 2 years management experience. Experience guiding and mentoring producers. Strong narrative storytelling, journalism and research skills. Interest in core NG Media subjects such as Science, History, Animals, Natural History, and Environment.
* Creative and resourceful self-starter, who can work both independently and collaboratively, and juggle multiple projects at one time. Top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management. Ability to advocate for the needs of the show. Experienced problem solver. Strong writing and research skills.
* Strong editorial and journalistic judgement. Audio literacy. Experience managing a budget. Ability to have fun with storytelling is a must.
* Excellent skills in ProTools audio editing software. Experience with administrative applications such as DocuSign, Slack, Asana, Microsoft Outlook.
* Experience reporting science, environment and social science stories.
* Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure.
* Creative and resourceful self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively and juggle multiple projects at one time.
