Music Reports is the leading provider of music rights administration services in the United States, offering a full spectrum of music administration services to clients including strategic consulting, music clearance, licensing, and royalty reporting. The company's clients include the world's most successful broadcasters, record labels, digital music services, wireless carriers, and consumer products companies.
The Licensing Coordinator is primarily responsible for obtaining music clearances and securing music licenses for Music Reports' clients, as well as preparing and maintaining reports that track the negotiation status of each project.
Tasks:
• Draft and send a high volume of catalog licensing requests to major and independent record labels, distributors, management companies, and music publishers
• Engage in written and oral communication with rights-holders to negotiate favorable terms and secure rights for content included in clients' programming
• Research online to identify potential licensors for large-scale licensing initiatives, including publishing and master recording rights ownership and contact information
• Coordinate with IT Operations in the setup of automated processes for large-scale licensing projects, including preparing documentation,drafting templates and cover letter forms, and providing quality control services
• Field daily inquiries from clients and senior licensing staff regarding license terms, status, and negotiation points
• Draft license revisions to reflect negotiations and discuss with clients, senior licensing staff, and business and legal affairs departments
• Review and vet recording and publishing metadata to ensure accuracy and formatting consistency
• Maintain and deliver regular and detailed excel status reports to department staff and clients
• Enter individual license and royalty terms into company's licensing database system
• Coordinate with royalty services and IT departments to facilitate development and resolve processing concerns related to novel royalty administration terms
• Communicate with copyright research department to enter updated rights ownership and contact information into company's proprietary Songdex® database
Qualifications:
• 2-5 years' experience in the field of music clearance and licensing, including mechanical and synch licensing, and licensing new media rights including SVOD, public performance rights, etc.
• Ability to organize and manage high-volume projects and effectively communicate the status of same to clients and supervisors
• Pre-existing relationships with record labels, artist managers, music publishers, and entertainment law firms
• Familiarity with online copyright ownership research tools including discogs, allmusic, HFA and PRO searchable databases, and other sources
• Up-to date knowledge of industry trends and label acquisitions
• Knowledge of public domain guidelines
• Flexibility to handle multiple projects and adjust to changing priorities
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service focus
• Proficiency with Word and advanced proficiency with Excel preferred
• Ability to quickly learn in-house proprietary software systems to accomplish various department tasks
