The Manager Data Center operates and maintains all MSGE New York and Chicago data centers, ensures equipment deployed to any MDF/IDF/MER/SER is done so only with proper documentation and accounting for power, environment, and space considerations. The Manager ensures all cabling and patching within MSG venues and facilities to include the New York Colocation Facility (LV COLO) is done to industry standard. The Manager works with Network Operations, Venue Technology, Security, and Technical Operations departments to support artist productions and execute security technologies. The Manager supervises the Data Center and Security Systems Engineers, collaborates and certifies all work done by low voltage contingent labor. The Manager exercises formal and informal authority and fosters a professional environment that encourages participation and idea sharing within a framework of mutual respect, camaraderie, cooperation and teamwork.
What will you do?
• Design data centers to support MSGE venues and facilities; environmental and power specifications, cabling, racking, and patching must adhere to industry standards
• Maintain data center and NY COLO wire maps and rack elevation diagrams; ensure documentation remains current
• Maintain data center power and environmental architecture functionality and ensure it is in line with industry standard
• Monitor NY COLO monthly spend to ensure that unnecessary circuits and cross connects are terminated
• Supervise and certify all layer 1 cable installation and patching within the venues and facilities and colocation facility in support of corporate requirements and venue operations
• Support all carrier circuit installs including scheduling site surveys, carrier equipment installs, and circuit testing/turnup
• Work with the Security, Network Operations, and Server/Storage Engineering to integrate surveillance video and physical security access control infrastructure into MSGE venue and facility tech stack
• Escalate incidents to Sphere Security Technology Systems and to third part threat management vendors Plugout and eConnect to as required
• Communicate with customers and IT staff on outstanding requests to ensure timely completion of tickets and leverage all required support groups to resolve support issues.
• Provide L2 support (incident resolution, root cause analysis, able to model and replicate identified issues, executing associated fix action); participate in MSG incident management calls as required.
• Collaborate with peers to create a working environment that ensures success at all levels within the department
• Supervision of 204 Direct Reports
What do you need to succeed:
• 5 years of people management experience
• 8 years’ experience performing end-to-end service delivery responsibilities in Client or Network Services
• 6 years’ experience supporting large events and venues
• Demonstrated experience leading professional IT support operations based on industry best practices
• Proven experience leading projects focused on designing and/or implementing new or significantly enhanced IT services
• Must have extensive knowledge of structured cable system designs and implementations
• Highly organized and detail oriented with exceptional leadership and customer service skills.
• Hands on technical experience with layer 1 installation
• Familiarity with video surveillance and physical security access control technologies
• Familiarity with routing and switching technologies within large enterprise networks; specifically, Cisco routers and Cisco routing platforms
• Able to manage time effectively, independently, and produce work on schedule. Need to prioritize and manage across multiple, often time-sensitive initiatives.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to create business correspondences
• Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with customers, staff, senior management, vendors and contractors
• Proven ability to perform well under stress when confronted with emergency, critical or unusual customer situations and issues
• Proven ability to conceptualize and execute deadline-driven projects, with strong bias for action and ability to prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
• Adept at applying process management and continuous improvement tools and techniques
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS?
• The Manager will travel to all Chicago and New York venues and facilities many times throughout any Fiscal Year.
• Will work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by event or incident.
