Summary
This role will support the Vice President, Rights Management with the day-to-day duties associated with the continuous maintenance and upkeep of the company’s rights tracking and avails enterprise system (FilmTrack) while simultaneously working on long-term projects. This position will also be asked to conduct research, interpret and assess acquisition agreements, (including windows and restrictions, clearances, holdbacks) to validate and identify rights controlled by Miramax as well as validate the availability of distribution rights in the Miramax library.
Responsibilities
• Rights Analysis: Review, analyze, interpret underlying rights-in contracts to confirm rights / territories / languages / channels to open inventory to fully exploit all sellable library assets.
• Advises on clearances and related issues.
• Analyze legal rights position and claims.
• Assist legal department with legal research.
• Conduct factual research into third party activity which may infringe company’s IP rights and research relating to enforcement and protection of company intellectual property assets.
• Data Entry and Maintenance: Update data and product information in company’s rights database. Ancillary Licensing support: Review and enter ancillary sales contracts into company’s rights database.
• Support pre-sale distribution licenses of new TV and film development, production and sales, calendar key dates and transfer contract information into company’s rights database.
• Support worldwide sales with availabilities reports (“avails”) with a focus on digital but including all media.
Requirements
• Undergraduate degree required; emphasis in Film/Production/Development preferred
• Law degree or paralegal certificate desirable
• Previous production and/or studio experience preferred
• Minimum 3 years experience in contract administration, intellectual property and clearance or licensing
• Experience using FilmTrack software preferred
