Position Summary:
The Miami Marlins are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance and accounting team. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the financial integrity of the organization by managing complex accounting processes, preparing accurate financial reports, and supporting strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, a passion for sports, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Essential Functions:
• General Ledger Management: Play a key role in general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensure timely and accurate reporting for internal stakeholders and MLB compliance requirements.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts, collaborating with department heads to align financial goals with operational objectives.
• Audit and Compliance: Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, ensuring compliance with GAAP and MLB financial reporting guidelines. Maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
• Revenue Analysis: Analyze revenue streams, including ticket sales, concessions, merchandise, and sponsorships, to provide insights for business development and profitability.
• Special Projects: Support financial analysis for capital projects, such as stadium improvements, and assist in implementing new financial systems or processes.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the finance team and cross-functional departments (e.g., baseball operations, marketing, etc.) to provide financial guidance and support organizational initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, MBA, or path to credentialing preferred
• 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or sports/entertainment environment
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Concur, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with financial statement preparation.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Passion for baseball and an understanding of the sports industry.
