Position Summary:
The Miami Marlins, a Major League Baseball (MLB) team, are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Risk Coordinator to assist the Manager, Risk Management and Legal Department in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across the organization. This role will support the Manager, Risk Management and Legal Department in ensuring the safety of staff and maintaining compliance with league regulations, local laws, and industry standards. The Risk Coordinator will also assist with evaluating and processing workers' compensation claims, departmental reporting of insurance claims, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory recordkeeping and third-party vendor insurance compliance.
Essential Functions:
• Workers' Compensation
o Provide ongoing administration of workers' compensation insurance claim files, medical billing records and related claim reporting and documentation
o Liaise with workers' compensation insurance broker consultant (The Fairly Group/Willis) and Club medical staff as necessary to ensure claims resolutions are tracked (i.e. monthly claims review)
o Maintain all related workers' compensation insurance documentation, create, and maintain claim files
o Track, code, and process workers' compensation-related medical expenses
o Follow up communication with physician offices, PT Clinics, pharmacies etc. and WC company
o Sending approval communication and claim information to physician offices, surgery centers, etc. prior to appointments or surgery
• Contract & Insurance Administration
o Review contracts with vendors, sponsors, and partners to identify and mitigate liability risks.
o Ensure third-party compliance with Marlins' risk management standards. Enforce compliance to gameday vendor guide, including food truck guidelines.
o Issue Club certificates of insurance and review and track all vendor certificates of insurance to ensure compliance with Club's insurance requirements as specified in Club agreements/contracts.
• General Liability Claims Management
o Work with the Manager, Risk Management, Legal Department, brokers, adjusters, TPAs, and defense counsel to ensure adequate protection for the team, staff, and facilities.
o Coordinate claims related to GL, auto, workers compensation, and property.
o Track claim status and provide summaries and reports to the Manager, Risk Management and Legal Department
• Game Day Operations
o Attend Miami Marlins home games and loanDepot park events to identify on-site risks and respond to incidents.
o Coordinate with the Manager, Risk Management and Ballpark Operations, Security, Facilities, and Guest Experience to mitigate on-site risks during Marlins' home games and other loanDepot park events.
o Document incidents and submit and track incident reports.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Understanding of insurance policies, liability frameworks, risk transfer and regulatory compliance
• Working knowledge of the (FL) workers' compensation act and other related federal laws
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by the baseball season and loanDepot park events calendar.
• Ability to assist with evaluation of medical related claims documentation and billing determinations
• Ability to handle and maintain confidential information and maintain HIPAA compliance
• Ability to use MS Office Suite at an intermediate / advanced level
Suggested Education & Experience Guidelines:
• Required four (4) years of college in relevant field or equivalent
• 1 years of experience in risk management
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, multi-tasking abilities, and the ability to deal with various departments and functions
• Workers' Compensation billing and coding experience preferred
• Knowledge with OSHA regulations preferred
• Knowledge with General Liability insurance preferred
