This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Position Summary:
The Legal Intern will be responsible for providing legal support and service to all the departments within the Marlins' organization. This includes reviewing, drafting, and managing the Marlins' business agreements; assisting with managing litigation matters; ensuring compliance with applicable law and MLB rules and regulations; managing worker's compensation cases; and assisting the Vice President and General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and other Marlins' employees on other legal matters, as requested.
Essential Functions:
• Review, draft, and manage various types of agreements (i.e., sponsorship, ticket sales, marketing, non-baseball event, third-party vendor, and independent contractor agreements)
• Advise and assist in the implementation of all promotions, contests, and sweepstakes
• Review, draft, and manage waivers and releases for events at Marlins Park
• Assist with document production and discovery matters for Marlins' litigation
• Research various legal issues and provide written and verbal legal opinions as needed
• Assist with managing the worker's compensation litigation process
• Assist the Legal Department with transitioning to (and eventually maintaining and updating) its electronic document management system
• Support the Legal & Risk Management Departments with various tasks and special projects, as requested, including administrative support as requested
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Professional writing skills, analytical ability, and oral communication skills
• Highly effective with organization and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills, with a positive, team-oriented, and self-starting attitude
Suggested Education & Experience Guidelines:
• J.D. degree from an accredited law school (or current candidate for such degree) required
• Work or internship involving drafting and managing business contracts strongly preferred
• Superior record of academic achievement and leadership initiative required
