Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. ("MGM") is seeking a Manager, Mastering and QC. This individual will be responsible for taking delivery of new "A" title features, limited rights acquisition titles and library titles mastered by third parties as well as supervising library feature mastering (HD & 4K/UHD) and preparing all titles for worldwide distribution.
A-Title responsibilities:
• Liaise with Post-Production Managers & Supervisors about schedules, deliverables to partner studios and archiving assets after Production closes. Must learn of the particulars of the production like whether shot on film or digital, aspect ratio, sound, VFX, HDR, post facilities, etc
• Receive mastering assets, QC, conform and fix if necessary, writing purchase orders for all work
• Evaluate QC reports quickly and collaborate with vendors and post-production supervisors to determine necessary fixes and re-delivery turnarounds
• Locate and retain all accessibility files and foreign assets, making sure all conform to key picture assets and are added to HD feature Title Package
• Make sure Title Packages (UHD, HD & Trailer) are done correctly, limiting to all conformed foreign assets and key picture files
• Liaise with MGM Marketing to QC, prepare for distribution and archive trailers, VAM, EPK, etc
• Issue purchase orders to vendors where needed and process invoices within SAP in a timely fashion, disputing and resolving invoices as needed
• Close project by storing any hard assets, updating MGM inventory database and moving all key electronic documents into shared Title File folders
Acquisition responsibilities:
• Set up landing areas at post facilities for digital deliveries from licensors. Liaise with licensors and be on top of the delivery schedule once deliveries commence
• Set up QC and mastering of the deliverables, writing purchase orders for all work
• Know MGM tech specs & requirements and appropriately push to get licensors to meet them
• Deal with often extreme deadlines and work calmly and efficiently to meet said deadlines
• Inspire confidence from the Acquisition/Sales MGM team that all deadlines can and will be met
Library Title Mastering responsibilities:
• Gather sources for the project in all formats; properly track their whereabouts and returns
• Create purchase orders for the work, listing all steps involved in the process
• Track the project status and make sure deadlines are met
• Make several views of title, its picture & sound restoration as well as color correction; work with outside QC vendor to determine restoration needs and eventually approve final master
• On occasion contact Talent for supervision and/or final approval of color & restoration
• Update all databases accordingly, noting technical anomalies, content differences, etc. for both entire film and individual assets
Digital Archiving responsibilities:
• Familiarity with the challenges of both data and physical assets and their known deterioration/ obsolescence issues and determine which assets need attention and which take greater priority in addressing
• Seek new knowledge and new workflows to bring aging assets to more current technologies
• Write purchase orders and approve associated invoices for payment, destroy any assets no longer needed after archival migration and properly update inventory system to reflect said destruction, new assets and their correct and current locations
Qualifications:
• Must have 3- 5 years of experience in a media, studio, production or post-production environment
• Knowledge of how all stages of the process fit together
• Experience with scheduling and supervision of post-production projects is desirable
• Experience with digital delivery, post-production, QC and rejection resolution
• Knowledge of HD & UHD (SDR & HDR) specs and differences
• Knowledge of closed captioning and subtitling (forced and non-forced)
• Professional attitude and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and vendors
• Strong organization, communication (verbal and written), and keen attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and juggle different priorities and projects with a positive attitude
• Calmly meet difficult timelines despite irregular changes to series post schedules
• Proficiency in MS Office required
• SAP knowledge preferred
• Experience with file, tape and film inventory systems
• Work independently and efficiently
• BA/BS degree preferred
