The Reporter develops, shoots, writes, edits, and reports daily news stories and events and presents information live or on tape. This position coordinates with assignment desk and producers. The Reporter also gathers packages and brokers information about a news topic to the general public. In addition, this position submits daily stories to the website and other social media.

Essential Job Functions
60% -Receives assignments and evaluates leads/tips to develop story ideas. Develops, shoots, writes, edits and reports video news stories from concept to finish. Researches and compiles information into a written story that is ready for on-air delivery. Generates story ideas, cultivates news sources and remains knowledgeable regarding places, events and people in the news. Shoots and edits video as necessary. Presents material in live shots daily.
20% -Serves as community ambassador for the news department. Responds to concerns of viewers. Makes personal appearances on behalf of the station. Attends station sponsored promotion events as scheduled.
10% -Utilizes equipment such as satellite phones, telephones (including landlines, cell phones, PDAs, etc.), fax machines, modems and laptops to transmit news stories or reports from remote locations.
5% -Maintains contacts within business community to report promptly on new or continuing events.
5% -Provides daily story notes outlining ideas for future stories. Passes along facts uncovered concerning ongoing projects. Provides progress reports on story checks. Shares information relating to upcoming events, meetings or story developments. Presents stories via on air, live from the set, live remotes or live indoor locations.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience can be substitued for degree on a one yr of experience equivalent of one yr of college.
Experience:
Two years experience in broadcast journalism at a commercial television station required.
Experience with Grass Valley editing and P2 cameras is highly preferred.
ENPS experience is preferred but not required.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess advanced understanding of legal and ethical issues impacting journalism.
Ability to write well and combine words and pictures into informative and interesting news stories w/in FCC regulations
Advanced knowledge of the locale, governing bodies, demographics and public figures.
Ability to shoot video
Ability to edit stories that will appeal to viewers and help maintain or improve ratings w/in FCC regulations
Ability to perform quality work in high pressure deadline situations.
Ability to perform live shots, often adlibbed in a professional and respectful manner
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be willing and able to be flexible with change and reflect a positive disposition when change occurs suddenly and often.
Must possess valid CT Driver's License.
