Position Purpose
The Memphis Grizzlies organization has a role and responsibility to actively partner in building strong communities across the mid-South region. Through the work of our Community Engagement team, we leverage the power of sports to address important social issues in education, youth development and health and fitness.
The Manager, NBA Player Initiatives is responsible to drive high levels of stakeholder awareness and participation in that mission. S/he will develop and implement strategies to maximize the community impact of NBA initiatives while aligning player investment to our organizational CSR goals. Working closely with the VP of Basketball Ops and the Director of Youth Basketball, this position will ensure seamless execution of events and investments across priority areas.
The position reports to the VP, Community Engagement and is part of the collaborative partnership between the Community Engagement team, the Grizzlies Foundation, and peer departments across the Grizzlies organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Work with the VP and strategic partners to develop and implement a Fiscal Year plan that leverages Grizzlies assets in support of organizational goals
• Develop, own, and execute strategies that leverage the NBA Cares platform to make a measurable impact in the community.
• Manage planning, logistics and implementation for all community programming including: fundraising on behalf of St. Jude, education, youth basketball, game night activations, Tickets 4 Kids, and donations. Support civic activations for the G-League team, the Memphis Hustle, when appropriate.
• Engage Basketball Ops to increase player buy-in and commitment: design a portfolio of community engagement opportunities for individual players / groups of players that reflects their personality and interests.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Partnership and Sales teams to develop revenue opportunities aligned to community investments
• Oversee the departmental budget process; ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately
• Leverage the power of storytelling to enhance the profile and impact of individual player and the team investments both within the Memphis community and nationally
• Act as the daily point of contact for the NBA, responsible for the timely exchange of information and documentation. Manage the NBA PATS process in a timely, efficient manner
• Maintain a high level of content knowledge relating to best practice trends in NBA community activation with specific emphasis on data driven reporting
• Ensure that internal and external audiences are kept apprised of project updates through newsletters, mailings, and other vehicles for direct communications.
• Work collaboratively across teams and functions to effectively promote the Grizzlies team programs, values and behaviors and to deliver on business goals

Skills
, Experience & Abilities
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Communications, Sports Management, Philanthropy or related field preferred.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional sports team experience
• Exceptional leadership skills coupled with a high degree of personal and professional accountability.
• Ability to plan and work independently, demonstrating a high degree of initiative, follow-through and project completion
• Strong teamwork, cross-group collaboration and a commitment to building shared voice
• Superior time management skills and an ability to produce high quality work involving analysis, problem-solving, organization, and writing skills
• Thorough understanding of basketball and a passion for the sport
• High level of integrity and emotional intelligence
• Knowledge of issues and best practices related to youth development, youth mentoring, education reform, community development
