Job Summary:
Marvel New Media is seeking a Production Utility Specialist that is energetic, dependable and has a willingness to adapt to the needs of a fast-paced production environment. This role serves as the primary camera operator but also works in various crew positions as needed during live and recorded production. The ideal candidate would be skilled in camera operation and lighting, and have hands on experience in Audio, Control Room Operation, and Studio Floor Managing.
This New York-based role will be part of the production team tasked with the creation of audio & video content, from promotional material to original entertainment, distributed on all key Marvel and social media platforms. This role will report to the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities:
• Camera
• Serve as primary camera operator for all live and recorded productions in our NY creative space.
• Set up cameras following guidelines for frame rate, resolution, LUT usage, white balance, and record format.
• Work with producers and Director of Operations on camera blocking.
• Maintain proper shot composition and shot focus. Use waveform, vectorscope, focus peaking, zebra patterns, and other tools to ensure proper execution.
• Determine lens, support, prompter, and accessory needs for all shoots and set up equipment.
• Be proactive in anticipation of camera needs.
• Experience with Sony FS7 and other cinema style cameras required.
• Audio
• Set up microphones, IFBs, comms, and audio routing for all shoots.
• Monitor and adjust source levels for proper output, EQ microphones, maintain proper gain structure on inputs.
• Experience miking talent is required.
• Lighting
• Serve as lighting technician; applying knowledge of studio lighting to handle all needs for productions in our NY creative space.
• Set up lighting for field and event shoots.
• Operations
• Maintain the creative space and control room by keeping the area clean, maintaining camera, lighting, and audio equipment and properly reporting equipment issues.
• Work in coordination with talent and production teams to book internal shoot spaces, determine set up and strike time needs, and allocate equipment resources.
• Generate call sheets for creative space shoots.
• Control flow of talent and crew on creative space floor.
• Generate and maintain library of shoot plans and creative space procedures.
• General
• Take direction from show producers, Director of Operations, and senior staff to execute and achieve production goals.
• Effectively use of preproduction time to achieve high-quality output.
• Execute shoots in the field and at conventions/events as needed.
• Move camera, lighting, and production equipment, as well as, furniture and set dressing.
• Provide media management and edit support as needed. Adobe Premiere and After Effects experience a plus. Commitment to learn is required.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years experience in video content production and camera operation. Entertainment and news experience is a plus.
• Dependable self-starter with a positive attitude.
• Build and maintain good working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and personalities.
• Strong technical aptitude with an interest in continuous learning.
• Punctuality and reliable attendance.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to successfully work in a high-pressure environment both independently and with a team and adapt quickly to changing situations.
• Able to lift and move camera and lighting equipment, furniture and items 20lbs and over.
• Must be able to give direction to internal and freelance directors, producers, camera operators and crew of various experience levels.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree (TV/Film/Journalism or related field) or equivalent work experience)
