Job Summary:
The Director of Development, Live Action will support VP Development, Live Action and SVP, Original Programming, Live Action. This position assists in overseeing development with some current series supervision of Marvel Television Live Action productions as needed. The role is suited for someone dynamic and creative with good communication skills. Organization and relationships with the creative community is critical. A detailed understanding of the production process and/or live action production experience is required.
Overview
• Work with senior Marvel executives to guide all creative efforts on show development.
• Collaborate with Marvel Live Action Production to monitor production and post-production as needed.
• Find talent and build relationships in creative community.
• Guide show Creative and Production personnel to ensure integration of the needs, standards and creative input of key Marvel stakeholders from across LOB:
o Marvel Television
o Broadcasters/Distributors
o Marvel Licensing
o Marvel Games
• Ensure that each show is as appealing and appropriate as possible to its target demographic
• Communicate with other Marvel creative divisions (New Media, Publishing) to maintain brand cohesion and priorities.
• Monitor and understand current trends in television and related media.
• Formulate and propose viable future projects as needed.
• Assist other members of the television department, as needed.
Responsibilities:
Development Functions
• Assist in creative development on show concept, story/script development, characters & design and execution to meet strategic criteria for Marvel Licensing, Legal, New Media as well as TV/DVD/VOD partners
• Develop and maintain relationships with the creative community (writers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights) as well as agents and managers.
• Track overall deals, keep up-to-date lists of available talent.
• Collaborate with Marvel Production to help manage and give creative direction to vendors and production service partners as needed
• Review/critique creation of series overview, pilot and all scripts/written materials related to assigned projects.
• Review/critique promotional materials as needed (i.e. one-sheet, on air promos, internet promos, social media shareables) and assist in education of key marketing and publicity team members on show creative.
• Manage all creative approvals & distribute key approvals within Marvel
Production Functions
• Work with creative talent to develop story ideas.
• Review casting, production meetings, key production design.
• Attend and report on, as needed, production on location while shooting.
• Serve as on-set liaison between network/distributor and production/Marvel
• Review creative and development of trailers and promotional content.
• Review dailies, editing, post-production, mixing & delivery of masters.
• Monitor and report on quality standards and schedules.
Marketing Functions
• Approve and collaborate with Marvel Publicity & Marketing department on press releases & episodic promotional materials for ongoing series.
• Work with other departments (Publishing, New Media, etc.) to ensure that tie-in efforts based on the projects up-to-date and accurate.
Required Education
BA / BS Degree or relevant industry experience.
