Manager, Development (Unscripted TV)
Magical Elves is seeking a creative junior executive with proven experience in unscripted TV development to join our Los Angeles team as Manager, Development (Unscripted TV). The position will work across all aspects of development and will include a wide range of responsibilities including ideating and creating targeted television concepts, writing loglines and treatments, researching concepts and examples, creating Keynote/Powerpoint decks, pulling clips for sizzle reels, casting outreach and occasional editing and graphic design.
Our Development Manager should be extremely knowledgeable and insatiably curious about both the creative and business sides of our industry, as well as possess a strong understanding of the fundamentals of development and production across unscripted tv formats. They will be expected to closely monitor and stay abreast of content-related industry evolutions and advancements, with an eye to what's trending next as well as staying up-to-date on the latest news stories and trends in the podcast, television, and digital video industry.
Candidate must have:
• BA/BS degree preferred
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in unscripted TV development at a production company and/or network
• A strong understanding of content creation for a diverse audience across multiple platforms
• A deep network of contacts across the entertainment industry
• High level of proficiency in Keynote, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience with editing and photo manipulation software is a big plus but not a requirement
• Must be self-motivated, have the ability to take initiative and be proactive in all matters
• Must be a critical thinker and problem solver
• Creative research skills (i.e., be a good Googler)
• A huge media diet full of content that represents diverse voices and perspectives
• A voracious consumer of news and cultural criticism
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• A sense of humor and discerning taste
• Ability to work in small teams as well as work independently
• A positive, curious, playful disposition (i.e. no bummers)
