The Staff Accountant will support the general accounting and financial analysis relating to sports and entertainment events at all of MSG’s venues, and the overall financial consolidation of the MSGE Bookings and Sports Properties divisions. Tracks all sponsorship revenue and fulfillment expenses vs. the budget and the most recent quarterly forecast. This includes the production of a sponsorship P/L for each booked sponsor as well as a consolidated sponsorship report. Tracks New Business and marketing expenses. Oversees the monthly Booking Outlook System reconciliation to the Oracle General Ledger. Makes weekly Outlook changes and assists in the annual budget and quarterly forecast process. Reviews the balance sheet for issues and communicates those issues to the event finance staff. Tracks the length of time the event has been open and notifies management if the event is not settled. On occasion, provide analytical support to special projects assigned by VP or Director of department; i.e., union negotiations, ASCAP/BMI reports, competitive analysis, etc.
Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years experience performing financial analysis, cost accounting, budgeting, and financial control, preferably in the sports or entertainment field, along with a BS in business/accounting or related field. Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines. High level of energy and commitment to providing a high quality service experience for both internal and external clients and guests. Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to think “outside of the box” in order to analyze variances. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and proven experience in Excel required. Strong skills in Database management preferred. Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements of local labor forces used by MSGE as it relates to rates and work rules is a plus. Will possess the ability to communicate articulately and persuasively both verbally and in writing. Skills in computer systems used by MSGE, i.e., Oracle, Peoplesoft, Crystal Reports, Workbrain, BOS and TM1 are a plus.
