Job Summary:
We are looking for a collaborative and creative team player who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, and passion for great storytelling and filmmaking that define Lucasfilm.
The Manager, Film Archive oversees the management of all archival film material. Reporting to the Vice President of Franchise Assets, the Manager, Film Archive role will partner with various productions and stakeholders to strategize, develop and implement processes and best practices with a concentration on the cataloguing, stewardship, safeguarding and preservation of 50+ years of archival film material for Lucasfilm.
What you'll do
• Oversee Film Archive collections across multiple locations ensuring materials are housed, handled and trafficked properly, providing condition reports where necessary and flagging unsafe conditions for all film archive assets
• Partner with other members of the Franchise Asset Group in efforts including, but not limited to, preservation and restoration as well as proliferation of the Film Archive's materials to internal and external clients
• Key focus area includes servicing requests of archival materials received from active Lucasfilm shows, from preproduction through postproduction and wrap
• Partner with VP, Franchise Assets with strategic planning on budget needs and annual budget forecasting. Also, identifying and nominating priority preservation and restoration projects
• Partner with internal LFL Franchise teams and Production peers
• Ensure the LFL Film Archive is up to date on best practices across industry and archival standards through attending conferences, maintaining relationships with archivists at TWDC and beyond
• Manage direct report Film Archivist role with day-to-day guidance, performance management, and mentorship. Additionally, manage project hires, interns and third-party vendors as needed
• Provide departmental weekly status updates to VP, Franchise Assets to review projects, determine priorities, and confirm resources and supplies are sufficient for work in progress.
• Manage the secure transfer of all archival film collections to the new Novato Film Archive. Provide input on the archive build and manage vendors to ensure collection is housed properly in the new space.
What we're looking for
• 10 years' experience in archive management inclusive of 5 years of people management.
• Ability to supervise multiple projects and people in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient in Data Asset Management Systems
• Strategic thinker with the ability to be flexible as the role requires
• Access to and knowledge of archival vendors, systems, and peer community
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to think outside of the box and look for future archival technology strategies.
• Willingness to contribute effectively and transparently; adapting and embracing change with enthusiasm.
• Develop, hire and train new team members
• Knowledge of financial budgets
