Technical Assistant (Project Hire)
Job Summary:
Do you have a background in Computer Science and an interest in the exciting world of television production? Are you eager to gain valuable experience as part of a world-class, fast-paced production team? Lucasfilm Animation is looking for a Technical Assistant (TA) to be responsible for tracking and managing all digital information for the archiving project at LAL, as well as supporting other CG production pipeline workflow and tools.
Responsibilities:
Problem Solver, Detail-oriented, and Tech Savvy are keywords for the Technical Assistant (PH). On any given day, you might:
• Be the point person for LAL archiving project which includes upgrading tape drives, manually restoring, cleaning up, and processing archive data.
• ?Work with the CG Supervisor to find inefficiencies with the organization and packaging of the archival data.
• Manage and maintain the archive of show data, including the creation of archival backups for shows, maintenance of archive database, tools, storage and retrieval of physical media for recent show archives. Fulfills all data restoration requests.
• Help with development and maintenance of pipeline tools.
• Provide front-line production support across a wide range of tools and workflows, troubleshoot issues, and assist artists with general problem-solving.
• Monitors daily file transfers to and from vendors and debugs issues. Also, monitor jobs on the render farm.
• Monitor disk usage for LAL, with a particular focus on individual shows.
• Coordinate show storage needs on a long-term basis with the CG Supervisor and Pipeline Supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:
Here are the skills and experience you need to be successful in this role:
• Proven knowledge and experience with UNIX/Linux operating Systems.
• Programming and scripting experience, Python knowledge required.
• Experience in one or more of Maya, Nuke, Houdini or Arnold
• Familiarity with film and video postproduction and/or computer graphics techniques highly desired.
• Database knowledge and familiarity with production tracking systems such as shotgun preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities.
• Strong time management skills; Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree and/or equivalent experience.
